Looking good for the price

Product code: 82711206

Designed with an AMD Ryzen 5 processor, 8GB RAM, a 14” Full HD display and a 256GB Solid State Drive, the HP 14-dk0011na laptop provides portability, along with stylish looks. You’ll be able to complete work assignments, stream shows and check out your favourite web pages.

AMD Ryzen 5
With an AMD Ryzen 5 processor, you'll easily handle day-to-day tasks like word processing, image editing, web browsing and some casual gaming.

What is RAM?
RAM (Random Access Memory) is different to the permanent storage provided by hard disk drives (HDD), solid state drives (SSD) or memory cards in your equipment. RAM is used by your device to temporarily store data to carry out everyday operations. The more RAM your machine has, the faster you can expect it to open and run programs.

A solid performer
Featuring 8GB of RAM, this computer has enough power for casual tasks like web browsing and word processing as well as more demanding jobs like complex spread sheets and image manipulation. You'll be able to run a healthy number of windows at once without any obvious lag or slowdown.

Solid State Drive
Solid State Drives (SSD) give you the capacity to store your documents and media, while ensuring quicker and reliable access to your files and programs. SSDs are far faster than regular hard drives and ingeniously, they don't use moving parts to work, which makes them far more dependable and also quieter.

Radeon Vega 8 graphics
AMD's Radeon Vega 8 graphics processing unit (GPU) will enable you to enjoy a number of classic older games, along with some casual (web-based) gaming. You may be able to run more modern titles with reduced effects and frame rates.

Great entertainment
Thanks to its 14”, Full HD screen, viewing your high resolution photos, films and videos will be a pleasure. It has been designed to convey immersive images and it makes for a great casual gaming and multimedia experience.

Connecting your other devices
The USB ports allow for fast data transfer, while the HDMI port enables the option for large screen presentations. The SD card slot offers a convenient way to upload your photos and videos. Additionally, Bluetooth can help to send data wirelessly between devices.

Screen beam
Miracast technology enables you to project your device’s screen onto your Miracast enabled television.

To enable Miracast functionality, press the Windows button + P (at the same time) on your keyboard and then click on ‘Connect to a wireless display’.

This is a great way to view pictures or websites on a larger screen, however please note: your videos might stutter or suffer with lag.

You can but because it's 2x4gb you'll be wasting at least 4gb to increase. Had it been 1x8gb you could have added ram to the spare empty slot.

As much as I like the Huawei brand. I would rather loose the extra space from the ssd and have a HP brand and from john Lewis makes this imo better value for money. Also from what I have read both ram and ssd are upgradeable so can always take the 256 out and throw a 512 in the future.
Was looking at this laptop this morning and it seems good price this days, only no for me in lack of numeric pad and 14" instead of 15.6"

Just add 2x8gb and sell the 2x4gb

Getting a decent laptop for cheap now is impossible, due to the coronavirus outbreak. If you can wait a few months, you really should.

Ahh ok thanks for your help will have a closer look at this one.
From the last time this was posted (for £50 cheaper), here is the manual.

You can upgrade the ram, the images in the manual that there are two replaceable dimms.
And the memory replacement procedure specifies 4gb and 8gb replacement sodimms,

So that would make this possibly able to be upgraded to 16gb (with 2gb shared to the Vega 8 graphics)

This is one of the few modern laptops that wasn't designed by an idiot who soldered 4gb to the motherboard.

I know there's going to be a lot of "have you got a time machine" comments, but seriously, this is not a deal. At Christmas this same laptop from John Lewis was listed as £449, with £499 being the normal price. This is literally just a laptop at normal price.

I dont even think it's worth the 400 to be fair. It isnt the fastest and it often crashes. It's not used often and has barely anything on it :-/
Plasticky build quality. No backlit keyboard.

I'm the other never liked any if my works HP laptops but loved all of my own Huawei kit. The other popular brand I have never really like are Lenovo. No particular gripes with HP and Lenovo just always found things like Huawei and Asus to be better.

Not saying the quality or build of Huawei isn't up to scratch and from my experience with the mate 10 pro. They make some amazing hardware. My concern is if anythink goes wrong what's the return like. At least with hp you got a more known brand name and the bigger deal breaker for me is the fact it's from John lewis. Now if john lewis had bjtb the matebook with the 512gb ssd and the above then I would have to look at it again and see. Maybe I would go weather they ate both upgradeable etc and take it from there.
I have literally been looking for a laptop since January and its changed from ‘wait until April for the old models to go down in price’ to ‘now is the worst time to buy a laptop, wait for the pandemic to be over’. There hasn’t been a single deal in the last 3 months that’s been highly impressive.

I gave up and bought a manufacturer refurbished laptop from EBay which is arriving today as I’ve got a deadline for the end of this month.

Matebook CPU will not throttle when you do CPU intensive tasks due to superb cooling system. And also have back-lit keyboard and better build quality due to aluminium chassis.
