This is a bit of boring basic laptop.

This laptop is also 8 GB and 512 GB vs 4 GB and 128 GB for the Acer, so it depends on what people's particular requirements are. I tend to prefer at least 8 GB and 256 GB.

I was curious as to who could possibly be liking and agreeing with your comments and then it was obvious it was only you - which is terribly pathetic... Core count is important especially when spending this kind of money on an not-cheap piece of electronics, it’s people like you with terrible advice who mislead buyers into choosing the wrong items. Sounds more like you’re trying to rationalise your own purchase of an objectively worse machine.

The fact you’re recommending a laptop with 4GB RAM and bashing this for build quality shows you have little, if any, credibility.

The Acer deal I posted has a backlit keyboard and brushed aluminium construction, much more durable, cheaper and more than capable to do what 99% of people need it for

You do realise the laptop you listed is a i3 whereas this is a i5 equivalent?

I dont care about aluminium construction as i am not going to use it as a brick. Plastic laptops have lasted decades in my experience. It has a great screen which i will be looking at all the time and has a very decent processor.

What questionable build quality are you talking about? I would take a better processor over a better build anyway.

Well HP has bigger ssd and better processor for only 30 quid more. I'd go for this one. Acer's battery life is great though.

This AMD Ryzen is comparable to an Intel i5. The Acer is an i3 I believe.
Seems to be IPS according to HP, the 512GB SSD is a welcome upgrade from the usual 256GB models too. Bargain but decent performance laptop - don't think you can beat it at this price range, something for everyone with this machine, will even do light gaming.

Agree. The chassis is a bit cheap and plastic I think but that's to be expected. Not something you'd want to cart around loads, but will be fine for mostly desk use. I have a similar model in the office now.

Absolutely great laptop for most people. Ryzen with 512gb ssd and 8gb ram is so edible right now
Hmm good but I’ve found HP laptops to not last longer than a few years without problems.

Within a year I had to get the screen replaced due to dead pixels/ lines across the screen (under warranty thankfully), and then 2/3 years the battery (understandable if I used it all the time, but I didn’t), and the fans had started to stop working properly too.

Family have had similar, and I’ve also heard similar when offering to fix peoples laptops.

Good deal for the specs though, and it should still last a couple of years, so have added heat.

If you are worried i would suggest a hp care pack for 3 years for £50.

Laptops can fail and I have seen Dell, HPs, Lenovos and Sony all fail so just luck. Its an electronic device that can fail.
Thats a lot of laptop for not much money.
Hot!
Cancelled the Acer and ordered this instead.

Once you have one with it, youll wonder how you ever coped without it.
If you regularly use the laptop before bed it really helps you sleep not having to have any lights on in the room and with the display on warm removing blue light its a lot healthier.

Amount of cores means nothing, it's just a number. In the real world i3 is more than enough, I should know, I have a 7th gen i3 with 4 gigs ram and it runs like a champ. 'future proof' means nothing in computing terms, windows 10 has a long life ahead and who's to say windows 11 will be more resource hungry

With the advent of 8th gen, i5 is quad-core and i3 is dual-core which means there's an enormous difference between the two, the i3 isn't even worth a look unless you're on the strictest of budgets and then you'd have to question if you should be buying it at all. i5 going quad-core and SSDs becoming ubiquitous are two of the best things to come out of the laptop market in the last 1-2 years.

And please stop liking your own comments

No-one cares about Thunderbolt at this price point... it's a professional/prosumer feature, anyone who would miss that but doesn't want to spend more than £500 needs to look at their priorities.
Thank you OP ordered.
This is a very well specced laptop, is there a catch?
I mean besides looking a bit clunky?
Also why can’t I find any reviews on this laptop, does it exist under a different model number?
Any good laptops for £300 but i3 minimum?
Mum wants to buy a present for a lucky grandchildren for school. I looked but nothing fancy enough for the price.
May be @MrSwitch should also post laptops ? Hint
This is good value for specs. Price reflects plastic casing and heavier weight than an Asus Zenbook, for example, and battery life not the best.
