If you’re searching for a great all-rounder laptop that’s as stylish as it is powerful, look no further than this red and silver model from HP. With a modern design that weighs just 1.7kg and a massive 12 hour battery life, it’s brilliant for working on-the-go or just watching the latest must-see boxset while cuddled up in bed. It can handle a wide range of tasks as well, thanks to a powerful Intel® Core™ i5 processor and 4GB of RAM – perfect for working on several programs at the same time. And you’ll be able to save all your family photos and more to the 256GB SSD, which offers plenty of space and improved loading speeds.

Why wouldn't you be able to? And why would you want to? And if you know …Why wouldn't you be able to? And why would you want to? And if you know about operating systems why would you need to ask such a basic question?I think some people think it makes them look cool if they ask about Linux.

That’s a bit aggressive...

I’m a Linux SysAdmin that’s why.

Some WiFi adapters don’t always play ball on Linux so I’d rather know before I buy because I don’t expect HP will support me

40LAPTOP gets another £40 off I think?
Not bad
Would I be best of looking for a laptop with 8gb RAM or buying this and adding 4gb?

Can the ram be upgraded? I've seen several HP laptops that can't. Good deal if it can.

Anyone know the wattage size of the battery in this - just trying to work out potential battery life as opposed to the claimed battery life.

A recent ruling in the USA could see this change whereby warranty void stickers are illegal.

Not aggressive in the slightest my friend.

Linux SysAdmin? Really? I assume it's a voluntary post then, if you have to ask questions as basic as that?

Remind me - how much are WiFi adaptors on Amazon?

Battery Type
4-cell, 41 Wh Li-ion
User-replaceable battery
Supports battery fast charge: approximately 90% in 90 minutes5
Target battery life
Up to 12 hours and 30 minutes estimated battery time3
Maximum battery life video playback
Up to 9 hours and 30 minutes3

One video review online says that the user got, IIRC, 9 hours battery life using this. I have a Dell 7000 that gave me a poxy 3 hours with a 42 watt battery that quickly dropped to just 1 hour so I am a bit paranoid about battery life now when looking for a new laptop.

Pfft!
The other hotukdeal thread about this has people who bought it saying that the screen is dim / dark - not as bright as they hoped.
I bought this last week with the £40 off code. Just went on to their live chat and got the extra £7.90 refunded to my card

What is the screen like - can you share some thoughts on it please? Bright enough?
Any idea how much would another 4gb of ram for this cost? Also is there a second sata slot for another ssd?

But it won't be valid here unless the EU or UK takes a similar stance.

There is another thread from about two weeks ago that gives some info about RAM and adjusting the screen and a few other tweaks.
Thanks for the heads up about their price matching! Got £47 back as I ordered when the voucher didn't work anymore.

That video review was a blatant paid review so I'd take any information gained from it with a massive pinch of salt. I was tempted to buy it before seeing that video, but they seem to be a tad too desperate in getting these laptops out of the door for some reason which puts me off! (The 3 written reviews on the AO site are also paid reviews).

Yep, I suspected so - the guy talks about the laptop for 10 minutes but hardly shows you the laptop at all. You mainly see his head and his ginger goatee more than the laptop. It did make me somewhat suspicious.

I am put off by the screen considering that I would be looking at it all day long for the next 2 years and hopefully longer.

Edit:

Odd why TWO reviews would focus on Cortana - which is a Windows feature and common to all new laptops instead of focusing on the laptop. Nah, I am pulling back from purchasing.

You're right. The response to your reasonable question was a bit aggressive.
On behalf of the more reasonable members of hukd I offer my apologies. Most people on here do try to be helpful.

Don't be put off.

I have one and Its a great laptop for the money.

The screen is a bit dim and lacks contrast on startup, but a few tweaks (look at the previous post about this laptop) and its not too bad at all
The usual gripe on here is it`s not full HD 1920 x 1080 but because this one is, now the gripe seems to be a dim screen.
It can be tweaked to better it.
See previous thread for info.
The main concern on the other thread was lack of RAM but that also can be added.

For £431 it can`t be beaten unless someone knows better.
For those that have it already, is the screen really dim? Is it pretty bad? The brightness can be adjusted, however then that will affect battery life?
Thanks

Should I or shouldn't I??
I'm still waiting for something similar with 8GB.
