Great price for the spec. I've got a similar laptop and only have a v. minor gripe that the trackpad can be slightly annoying when trying to click and drag.. wish it had physical buttons.
Any one know if this a gloss or matt screen?
Can the Ram be expanded in this machine, does anyone know please.

HP site says screen is anti glare so I'm assuming it's matte.

Added the service manual to the deal post. Has 2 memory slots but described as "non-customer accessible/non-upgradeable"
Guessing you can add more memory but have to take the back off *read the manual first*

Thank you, its perfect for my use but the extra ram will mean it might last longer as upgrades come along.
Thanks to Welshy1234.

The RAM can be upgraded by removing the bottom panel (pages 30-35 service manual). And adding SODIMM equivalent to this. Also it looks to have a 256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD listed here. So therefore allowing for an additional mechanical or SSD drive.

Thanks OP. Went for this over the HP from curry’s posted yesterday. The extra storage and better processor is worth the extra £50 in my eyes.

FYI, the display isn't as good on this one, it's a SVA.
Curry's one is an IPS.

Bit naughty from AO, not a game changer for me as prefer better spec
NVMe™ SSD is cool. Good deal. Just adding 4GB extra memory -when needed- is a bit of a pain.

HP started putting these clickpads in the consumer laptops for a while and they’re horrible. The Elitebooks had physical buttons which was great until the latest 8th gen CPU models... but they’re very good glass touchpads so it’s kind of ok. The bigger issue is their US-style half height enter key, not sure if this model suffers from it.

Ok laptop on the price front (the 4GB of RAM is real penny pinching...) but it’s literally the slowest i3 in the Kaby Lake range (i3-7020U) and at this price you’re within striking distance of Ryzen 3 and 5 laptops which will offer better performance (and light gaming).

Thanks for the info, been looking for a while and this is cheapest I could find for a 256gb SSD drive and “minimum” i3 processor

The i3 CPU is not bad at all, other than being outdated but Ryzen is not a lot more and will give you more overall value. If this were my price range I would move to the Ryzen machines especially if AO have any.
Quick word of warning if you're thinking of adding another drive. My experience is from a another model but I suspect the same for this.. there was a bay for the drive but had to buy the connecting cable separately, part number in the manual was easy to identify but price was around £50. I eventually found that it was a the same connector for many HP laptops but the part number was different. I bought one for £9 from eBay described as "Drive Cable Connector 6017B0416801

HP Envy 15-J Series 15-J184SA 15-J032TX HDD Drive Cable Connector"

Can anyone tell me if it has a fan, if so, is it noisy?
My hp laptop that i bought for £350, 5 years ago has 8gb ram, i3, great speakers and 1tb storage and 15.6” screen. This laptop is literally worst than the one i bought 5 years ago. For £350 we should be getting minimum i5 laptops with 8gb minimum at this time.

My point still stands man this is unacceptable. Specs should increase for the same price as technology/time progresses, not stay the same!
