New updates below! Got a speaker from Currys / PC World earlier and this looked like a really good buy, with Full HD 1920 x 1080p and a 256gb SSD and 2 x USB 3.1 ports! It also has 4GB of DDR4 super fast, mega tron, star cracking ram in it!

A few answers for everyone in the thread to help with the ?'s

What is the maximum ram in GB it can take?
You can upgrade it to 8GB,12GB or 16GB, it has 2 ram slots under the bottom cover and is easy to DIY!
Can it output to a 2nd display?
Yes!
What sort of hard drive is it?
It is a 256gb M.2 NVme SSD - write 1,000+mpbs read 1500+mpbs
Will it support 4K?
Yes, it has the Intel HD 620 graphics chipset in it
What version is the HDMi port on it?
It is Ver 1.4

Should I get the Siver, Red or Gold colour?
I am good, but I am not a mind reader!!

Extra £40 off the
£399 sale price for reserved items, is causing a few issues, so just to clarify for those NOT paying for it first or having it delivered and are collecting from any store, you have to GIVE the extra code LAPTOP40 to the person you pay in store, any issues, ask for a manager to do it, they will, as we picked up one this morning for a gift, after crumbling to the crazy price!! ;-)

3166990.jpg
It can be upgraded, if you need to, to 16GB, but it is plenty fast with 4GB!!

* thanks to @leelatham520 for the heads up and confirmation on that

4gb ram in 2019.

About enough for windows and chrome with a couple of tabs open. That's it.

As this is going hot, voucher code LAPTOP40 would knock further £40 off.
Looks like it's got an empty memory slot.
So add another 4GB stick, giving you 8GB RAM in total you're sorted for extra £33

4gb ram in 2019.

For what this would be used for, do not think that is an issue, its not a dual xeon e5 video editing beast, it seemed silky smooth when I was messing about with it

Hope not! I had a lot more than that open on it and it was still fine, when I came back to it 20 mins later, after picking up my Space Invaders beanie from the HUKD Primark deal, had candy crush, about 8 Edge tabs, word and about 5 other apps open still, I restarted it a few times, before that and was pretty shocked at how fast it was, when I did the 3 little windows 10 "tweaks" to it, in control panel, think the PCworld tech guru, was a bit miffed, I had spent so long on it, after he asked me if all was ok, 4 times, then I did not buy one!!

Looks like you can smack the RAM up to 16gb straight away though and it’ll tear through most work and lite play. (queue it’s not a gaming laptop retorts) uk.crucial.com/gbr…493 is where I check these things out. I can get 8% cash back through my company reward gateway
You chose to avoid mentioning the 4gb RAM on this laptop. My phone has more ram than this.
Voted cold for an otherwise ok deal.

Erh.... no.. along with tons of other info, the spec is on the landing sales page and the OP sheet??? But just to keep you happy, even though the "Submit a new deal title description" has now been whitled down to hardly any words.. I will ADD it for you in the OP!

Indeed it can, I will add that for anyone that wants to ray trace some cad work on it, as above comments state!!

With the £200 off and then another 8% off with your company deal, that is an amazing price, is that for all companies of X size or some sort of educational discount, if you do not mind me asking Lee?

I think this is a cracking deal! 4GB is enough for normal work etc. The SSD makes up for it.

Not sure if this will work in addition to the laptop40 code but:

Topcashback has 1% cashback on online orders AND it says that you get £40 cashback on windows laptops over £399

How much would it cost to upgrade it to 16gb Ram?

What 3 'tweaks' are you referring to out of interest? Just curious really.
For those complaining about the RAM, checked crucial website and the below is compatible at £29:

Crucial CT4G4SFS824A 4 GB DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) CL17 SR x 8 260-Pin Unbuffered SODIMM Memory amazon.co.uk/dp/…T1Q

I reckon if laptop manufacturers could run to an aluminium chassis, this spec with 8GB RAM at this price-point then these things would sell twice as fast. Tho it seems the tighter screen-to-body ratio and durable chassis tends to demand an unreasonable premium.
Just ordered - many thanks OP.

I'm wondering if this Corsair RAM is compatible:

amazon.co.uk/Cor…YG/

I always buy Corsair and its cheaper than Crucial equivalent:

He does.
Check thread, common theme, rhymes with fam.
Just seen a deal was posted last week for this sane laptop. Didn't get anywhere near as hot, and got quite a ripping in the comments for only being dual core.

Not so sure now....

He really doesn't, and you've missed th point entirely. I wasn't debating whether or not 4gb of RAM is good enough - I was responding to his comment that 4GB RAM is "about enough for windows and chrome with a couple of tabs open" which is clearly nonsense.

Maybe because it's £40 cheaper now.
Same thing but with 8th gen i5 and 4gb ram was in store in Currys for the same price
I saw on hp website , usb c ports are data only and not thunderbolt compatible. Otherwise I would have bought it .
For those willing to spend an extra £100, there's another version with 8GB RAM and a better processor. You also get a USB-C port and three USB 3.1 ports, rather than two USB 3.1 and one USB 2.0.

currys.co.uk/gbu…tml

I don't know what the more-RAM-vs-better-processor trade-off is like, though, so you might still be better off spending your £100+ on 16GB RAM, as people have been suggesting.

The performance is not as great when you combine Optane memory with a Sata SSD, and i believe as this is PCIe SSD the performance boost of Optane is almost negligible.
Is the code redeemable when collecting and paying in-store?
Great spec for the price. Quite funny reading the comments of those expecting to get a MacBook Pro for under £360

No, they refuse codes in store
8th gen i3 better then this chip or at least the same.

Might as well get the newer tech at the same price. Picked up a 14in lenovo 330s with 8 GB ram and 256 ssd (also fhd) but with 8th gen i3. Subjectively looks a lot better (tiny bezel) and the use of metal panels gives it a priemum feel seldom found at this price point.
