Dell/Currys have an almost the same system except the screen is not FHD for £229.

hotukdeals.com/dea…883

So £70 more here for a FHD screen but the same budget bones inside.

Well, it's all about the screen, isn't it? I would prefer the better screen

From my point of view, you still get the same tech inside, which is quite slow so if looking a better screens makes the wait better then of course! At £70 you might well get a different set of internals!

It was more of an "FYI", you know, "heres the price difference" sort of comment.

Could you please link one laptop you think is a better deal ATM around that £229?

Same internals, low res screen £70 less money. I believe a 3rd party manufacturer supplies and assembles all the parts for these laptops and they just get a different plastic case and badge slapped on.

Its worth noting, the CPU in these laptops, though you said it was mid range would probably struggle to out power a 2011 i5 in single and dual core processes.

Just a cheeky comment, I think you do have a like for pentiums as you posted the Vivobook deal for £299 but the i3 was the winner @ £30 more!

I agree with you. That deal was decent but unfortunately went up to £279 and compare that to this deal I would go for a better screen. You are right I do like Pentiums but my current is an AMD Ryzen 5 2500U WITH FHD display. (perfect screen)

Back at £229, if people want a better screen the they have to pay a bit more.

If it just says the OS is Windows 10, does that mean it is definitely not the Windows 10 S version?

I'm not sure about the version of the WIn but reading this here : "Thankfully, Windows 10 S is now more of a mode than a complete OS, so you are able to switch out/upgrade of it and into the standard Window 10 Home version for free just by adjusting the settings on your device. It should be noted though that this is a one-way street, so once you switch out you can't then switch back again. "
