Well you say that but if it's only photos.... Say 7mb for a hi-res photo less 30 GB for OS etc, that's a lot of photos. You do the math...

CPU isn't great and at £349 I'd be critical, but at £249 it's much better than a celeron/atom/some pentiums!
From someone who knows nothing about laptops....is this any good for someone who likes to take and store a lot of photos?

Yes and no, the speeds of loading your photos will be good thanks to the SSD, you may however need more storage, but it really depends how many photos and how much storage they take. For most people, their photo collections will be less than 50GB.

Do you use any 'cloud' services? Do you know how much storage your photos take?

I'd say for most this would be sufficient.

Definitely! The full HD IPS screen will be great for streaming, the SSD great for loading times and general usage, and the general size decent for being productive with whilst also being somewhat portable.

The memory could be better, 8gb is nice, but overall you would find this would meet most requirements fairly well.

Storing photos on a laptop is sooo 2006 ?

How do you take your photos? I assume mobile?

If so, use iCloud or Google Photos to backup to the cloud. Its worth the £3 a month for the extra storage to have photos immediately sync from your phone ?

iPhone:

google.com/amp…amp

Android:

support.google.com/pho…=en

Both Android and iPhone
Microsoft account (OneDrive)

google.com/amp…mp/

£250 over £3 a month = 7 years of backups.

Just checked the specs. It is basically the same computer. The only difference is the CPU, JL has a A9 chip, which is a little bit faster, and probably in normal use the speed difference will be undetectable. So if you want to save money go to Curry's, if you value service or prefer marginal speed increase go to JL.
Is 4gb ram upgradeable
Is it possible to upgrade Ram?
I had to strip a HP laptop last year to swap in an SSD caddy and RAM but the build quality was absolutely dire, easily the worst I've seen from any of the big brands. That said this is still cheap as long as you just want something to use Office on and browse.

My husband likes photography, so takes photos with his camera on things like holidays etc. I use my phone to take photos, but like to transfer them to laptop for safe keeping until I can print them.

Personally speaking, PAY the extra £30 people ...

As this will be blatantly toooooooo slowwwwwww.

Coming from a former AMD A9 chipset (which even that had it's 'moments'), so yes, I know what I'm talking about ...

But basic basic functionalities, yes. :-)

But for more than that?, well ...

It's kinda up to the individual basically?,
lol.

Yep, the more RAM in this thing, the merrier. :-D

Good price for what it is I guess?.

On the "+" side, you could always install Chrome OS on it?, and make this a very calparable Chrome OS Laptop thingy though?. :-)

This is extremely interesting. I have an old (10 year) laptop that I upgraded to the fastest cpu possible, which is an Intel t9300 dual core cpu from 2008. Even though that processor is 11 years old it is still about on par with the A6 offered in this deal....unbelievable.

Now onto performance, with a 120gb ssd, 4gb ram and that T9300 my laptop is snappy, great for web browsing and word. Forget gaming on it but for the above uses and watching sky go, videos on YouTube etc its more than capable.

Hope this helps someone who's thinking of buying.

Yeah, but it was the cheaper deal for a few days, yet managed half the heat. Just saying this is almost the standard price for this machine, £349 may be the RRP though.

That's more about how crap the A6 is rather than your old tech though. The A6 will use about 25-33% of the power of the T9300 so it does have some benefits.

Well 33% less of 35 watts is so insignificant it's not even worth mentioning.

Although yes I'm not sure if it's a case of this A6 is crap or my old T9300 is just still half decent.

That being said you could pick up a cheap second hand laptop and do some upgrades yourself and it should be cheaper than this offering here.
