I love reading these threads , I know very little about computers other than how to use one for work etc.
There's always someone got to mention the screen and always a John Lewis reference . Which always tickles me as i've not set foot in Lewis' since I was a child and then only to see the Christmas decorations . I suspect I'm not alone as there aren't many about .

Now even I've worked out its a £200 laptop it's probably not the best , but for the someone on a limited budget who just surfs the net and sends emails etc it's perfectly ok. There are Millions upon millions of people who do just that , they don't play games or edit videos or even use a an excel spreadsheet.

Anyway I've voted hot for the price

For under £200 it's fine.

Decent for the price

Is the celeron processor in this better?
People knock Celeron/Atomsall the time but are gonna let this pass as ‘alright for the money’!
1366 x 768 pixels

I would maybe be paying (at all) £30 more for

Just my two cents, but in this price range you are far better off getting a used business laptop from CEX with a far better CPU/memory/storage etc - 2 year warranty too.

IMO its not really worth paying an extra £50, this is 720p on a 14" screen

It's not to do with 720p vs 1080p image quality on a small screen. It's to do with how much content you can fit on screen. Screen real estate.

The stream has hardly any storage - install a few apps, and you'll be struggling.

It's going to be better - but it is also 50% more expensive.

Not 50% more. John Lewis deal was £250. For an extra £50, you get the current gen i3 and a Full-HD IPS rather than a TN.

People these days spend a lot of their time looking at 1440p on a 5.5 inch screen. You want 1080p at a minimum on a 14 inch screen. My own laptop screen is 13 inches and 1440p .

The comment I replied to suggested a Lenovo on ao for £299. So comparing a £200 Tesco one to a £300 one is a 50% increase.

My wife us starting university and will be using excel a lot, would this laptop do for that? Along with keeping photos and surfing the web ?
Looks like this has gone up to £299 less the £20 discount. There are two threads about this deal so not sure who to thank but I would have missed it otherwise. Picked mine up yesterday. So far very happy, ticks all my boxes. Was going to get an Acer but it fell a little short of my requirements. Great having 1TB HD, vga and HDMI out, Windows 10, 10+ hour battery. Seems much quicker than my old Netbook running XP. Had an initial problem with the Win10 Anniversary (big) update kept failing and restarting but a reboot fixed that. (Must give people a bad early impression it is slow but just let all the updates get out of the way first) Really impressed it is only using 5 or 6 watts of power at idle, even with the screen on (!) as I did not want a more powerful machine wasting electricity all day. Only tiny little criticisms - the keyboard probably needs getting used to, the keyboard surround looks cheap IMO and would have liked the fan to have been slightly quieter (its not loud though) but you can disable "always on" in the bios and change cooling profile to passive, which helps. Thanks.
