But is it essential? These aren't for high end photo editing etc, may of us have survived for years without full HD on a laptop. Think it's suitable for what it is aimed at, everyday casual use.

Most laptops at this price point are 1366x768. That's just how it is. how many similar specced laptop can you point to for £200?

Essential no, but I do find that res annoying on a 15 inch screen nowadays (not helped by the move to widescreen and the reduced vertical res (my old HP 14 incher with 1440x900 feels very different). But it's my choice to go for a higher res and pay the money. I can see that lots of people would be happy with it.
