Looking for a laptop for university, but can also play some games, that is below £500. Haven't found any better than this unless you have to have an i5 processor

For £450 I'd go for the Swift3, depsite me not being a fan of Acer...the processor and SSD paring will make it much faster. The HP will run hot, be noisy, and the mechanical disk drive will drive you nuts and doubtful it will survive university life. Forget games at this price point.

Although I know myself a Solid State Drive will run better, for myself 128GB is not enough which is why i've ruled a lot of laptops out. Also, when I say games I just mean light games like sims 4, which even my current HP Pavilion on an old i3 processor without a graphics card manages to run. Thank you though

OP, there are two significantly better options that I would recommend you consider.

First, there's this Acer Spin 5 convertible 13.3 inch laptop for £479. It has a core i5-7200u, which is a lot better than the AMD processor on the laptop you have linked. It also has a 256GB SSD, which is an ample size and will allow your laptop to boot a LOT faster and overall run smoother when opening programs/files etc. It also has a full HD (1080p) screen and 8GB ram. The only downside to this is that it has no optical drive, but if you're looking for a portable laptop, it's definitely the way to go.

Secondly, there's this HP 250 G5 15.6 inch laptop for £429. It is almost identical to the laptop you have linked, except it has an i5-7200u processor, which as I have mentioned, will outperform the AMD one in the model you have linked. Unfortunately, this one doesn't have an optical drive either, although you can easily find portable optical drives for £10-20 if you require one. This laptop doesn't have an SSD, which is a shame, although if you feel strongly about having one, you can always replace the HDD with a 2.5 inch SSD (I don't think you have the option of adding an SSD on top of the existing HDD).

Hope I helped.
I'm in the same position but haven't found any decent deals with an i5 processer all seem to be up around £500+
The one i'm considering is HP Pavilion 14-bk052sa i3 processor 8G RAM & 128GB SSD pcworld.co.uk/gbu…tml HP have a £50 cash back offer and further 8% student discount so will bring price down to circa £415.
Interested in anyones thoughts on this one?

See my post above - do either of those deals suit your needs?
That's a lot of money, for a poor performance laptop...

You can get i5s around this price, and honestly getting anything less than an i5 at this point is pointless.
Really good advice from hanpan so decided to buy the spin 5 from Argos but unfortunately that is no longer available and I can't find it anywhere else for anything like that price with the 256 ssd. I'm trying to get a laptop for my daughter before driving her to Uni tomorrow! Every time I settle on a make and model there is no stock. It's like trying to find the Holy Grail!

Oh, is it not showing in stock for you? I would check, but the website doesn't seem to be letting me right now.

Ah, I see now. I think you're right, it's been removed from the listings so it's presumably out of stock. That's a little disappointing.
Thanks hanpan. It was great advice. Our head of it at work conditions me d it was great spec for the money. I'll keep looking! She will have to continue with her old one until something as good comes up again!
