That's excellent, the N3540 only marginally slower benchmark than an i3. Not going to be setting any gaming speeds alight, but a nice general purpose machine with a useful amount of disk.

Thanks was looking for a laptop for my son at a reasonable price, this one is ideal

Suggest to go for something with pentium 2020M... Proper Ivy Bridge architecture, with proper HD Graphics... This is cheap ATOM crap related architecture...

Is the faulty caps lock button a common fault?

Would this be any good for streaming and basic gaming (sim city, rollercoster tycoon etc)?

Effectively £217.49 if bought with an Amex card, registered with the Amex account credit offer on here, which you registered with TCB as well and taking into account the £10 gift card for purchase over.

£249.99, with 5% cashback and £10 Amex credit, £10 gift card - ~£217.49 :-)

I have a reservation for one of these at Stafford Gaolgate Place. If anyone wants it, first come first served

Edited by: "Magister" 13th Nov 2014

If you don't want it why did you reserve it?

tbh better to get a laptop with a gpu even if its low end i find taking that pressure off of the CPU helps speeds

If you don't want it why did you reserve it?

He may be being kind and reserved it for someone on HUKD, changed his mind or more likely he's been "clipped around the earhole" by his Mrs for another impulse HUKD purchase!

I just wish I knew something about graphics on laptops...would really like one that played WOW on even low settings, just so I can stay in touch with people when I'm away from home for a while

This is awful- don't go anywhere near this.

Shame about graphics on the go is you need to pay money even for low/mid spec.

You're better off with the wow armoury app- you can talk to guildmates inapp with it, or even a tablet to play hearthstone which includes the function to talk on battlenet

Yeah, shame hearthstone is apple only so far, but I'd still rather they take their time to make a good android version

I'll look into the wow armoury thing

its all out of stock, everywhere :O

Entry level only but still would do the kids for home work or basic stuff on the net. Heat for price and letting us all know.....not everyone can shell out for top spec and price when cash is tight. Thank for post...still shop around and try to get at least i3 to start. Happy hunting. Merry Christmas all. Keep the deals coming.

Still in stock in my nearest 6 Argos shops
loads of purple and black ones in stock at the same price

got one in fleet, hants...

The benchmarks for this CPU are not as bad as implied in some of the posts here. See this comparison chart
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/laptop.html
(CTRL-F then search N3540)

The Atom processors are way down that list below this chip. There's a lot of entry level i3/i5 below it too. There's a huge amount of nice stuff above it but way off this price. My i3 is benched below this chip and my laptop does all my work, the kids play minecraft too etc. If you can find one go for it - heat added.

is this laptop better than the HP stream 14 that argos are selling for £229.........my sone wants a lap top for xmas just for browsing,youtube...some office work and playing minecraft

Assuming basic computer skills (and most 8 year olds seem to have much better computer stills than I), this would be perfect. HTH
