HP store says it's a new model. Can't find it anywhere else.

I preferred it to the Currys £499 one.

We'll see if it lasts longer than the Acer it's replacing. Grrr....

Thanks
Finally a proper IPS full HD laptop at a reasonable price point (considering the January sale prices).

None of this TN/720p stuff which some have been trying to promote. Heat added
nice laptop but why no ethernet port?
Looks like a good spec for the price but I cant tell if it is pretty much this price anyway so how much of a deal is this?

I hadn't noticed. Probably to save cost and because it's likely to see little use. The only reason I might use one at home is to setup a router. Nobody comes to my house and asks to plug into the Ethernet. They all want the guest WiFi. You can pickup a USB to Ethernet for a few quid for emergencies.

The first part of your comment should be the answer to the second part. You shouldn't base your buying strategy on how much the previously inflated price was. Although in this case I'm not sure there was one.
Heat added. Fairly decent spec
Is it possible to upgrade the keyboard to backlit?
I have a brand new HP laptop cost £1k from my company and never had so much grief in my life...goes into sleep mode and cant wake it unless hard close...even after changing settings still do it...and then some blue screen driver power failure because HP don't have auto upgrades so if you don't run this every now and then PC doesn't work properly.

Just can't believe I have all these issues - never had any probs with my own cheap laptops!

Not voting on your deal OP just my own experiences!
What's the difference between this and the Currys £499 one?

I've got their 17" model recently I just changed the sleep settings and it stopped going into sleep mode and changed the screen out settings also and the sleep problem was solved. You need to go to power settings to do this.

Out of touch with laptops - can you add a second hard drive to this (spare m2 or sata internal?) or is it external hard disk only?

Just disable Sleep. And check if your company has a customised version of Windows or other security stuff that is messing things.
Thanks OP. Ordered.

I did that also! But it still does it sometimes if I leave it on for a while and don't use it. And I don't even use any programs as I use VPN to logon for work. So frustrating!

I've been looking for a new 15.6 laptop with good storage and a keypad for while, this looks really reasonable, though could anyone tell me if this is a better or worse laptop than this one please?

At that price I would go down the Apple route although I appreciate this was a company laptop.
