I've been looking for a laptop under £500 with the following specs for a while but there was always one of them missing:
- 15.6" 1920x1080 screen
- at least 8gb RAM
- SSD
- Core i5 or higher
- DVD drive

So what does everyone think of this HP laptop that ticks all the boxes?

15.6" - 1920 x 1080 Screen
Intel Core i5 i5-6200U - 2.3 GHz Processor
8 GB RAM
256GB SSD
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Edition Operating System
DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM Optical Drive
1 year warranty

You can get the i3 version with 4GB RAM without the DVD player for under £320.00.

For those not interested in CPU intensive work I would think that to be a much better option even throwing in the cost of some extra RAM if required.

There's very little in it between this i5-6200U and the i3-61000U:
Intel Core i5-6200U @ 2.30GHz. MT = 3,933, ST = 1,497
Intel Core i3-6100U @ 2.30GHz. MT = 3,427, ST = 1,320
In both multi-threaded and single-threaded the i5 is about 14% faster. No surprise as they both are 2C/4T and run at the same base clock, just the i3 doesn't have turbo boost.

If you do the Which deal you can get it for around £305.00 which is a bargain IMHO.

Apologies, here is the FHD one - https://www.technoworld.com/deals/hp-250-g5-i3-5005u-15-6-4gb-256-ssd-win-10

It's actually £325 not £320, but still a great deal for a FHD, 256GB SSD etc.
