Not 100% sure, but the spec for the same model on another site states:

"Windows 7 Professional Edition 64-bit (with Windows 10 Professional 64bit License & Restore Provided)"

Is w10 so bad that people want the option to revert back to w7??

I would guess the downgrade option is for companies wishing to have a common os.

I went from W7 >W10; Missed 8 altogether. You remember how people hated 8?
I am still pi***ed off that MS dumped some utilities like TV player, but I'm happy with W10.
My 3 upgrades went very smoothly.

This is marketed as a business laptop, I think most businesses still use W7. In fact a lot of people still prefer W7, but don't want to be left behind with updates - just before the free W10 offer expired, people were asking on here if they could get a W10 licence for the future but not use it yet.

Cheers Pondlife. Is the free upgrade to Windows 10 option missed now then?

I bought one of these at work last week. Pretty decent for the price, I was quite impressed.

Would like to know how good this TN display panel is. Very good spec for the price

Good spec & only £100 more expensive than my HP laptop deal (similar spec)

No, as it was a licence to use 10 that they downgraded to 7 rather than a licence to 7.

?
The OP Deal has DVDRW built into it though? (or more appropriately: Optical Drive DVD SuperMulti). :-)

is the HP trade-in cashback available with this ?

I read that as rogercat wants something lighter. He/she would prefer similar spec without the dvd drive hence a lighter weight laptop.

If only it was not a HP :-/

To get £200 cashback you need this deal hotukdeals.com/dea…529

Nice deal but why the measly 256ssd. I'll fill that with family history and pics in the first month.
yes I do realise there are external hard drives but that defeats the object of a portable laptop don't you think.

I did seriously consider the deal you posted but my old laptop has a faulty fan so didn't want to risk not getting cashback. I guess it all comes down to how confident the buyer is on getting cashback.

You get recovery media for the OS that is not pre-installed. The terms are you can only have one or the other installed at any one time. Source: here .

Anyone know if I can put windows 10 on this if I've had it on another laptop via the upgrade path? I no longer have this laptop so wondered if there's anyway of transferring. Probably not lol.

Nope I think YOU are defeating the object!

SSD is not intended to be used that way (ie as a simple replacement for HDD). Store your stuff somewhere else?

Not legally.

But this comes with W10 in any case.

Same spec without optical drive here: saveonlaptops.co.uk/X0N…tml

install a larger SSD if you must, I'd rather pay this price that is fine for my requirements rather than pay another £50-£100 that a larger SSD.

I fully understand the ssd reason my argument is HP market this as a business computer. After 60 yrs in the computer industry a business computer to me should perform fully without adding extras. It's a pity as this would have been bought today by me except for this. I also give PowerPoint presentations and the only good way to do that is with presentation installed on the front screen believe me. Running it from a stick is painful. Anyway nice to discuss cheers.

Does it? I keep seeing W7 being mentioned as the OS?

What's your bad experience then?
I've never had a problem with my 2 Elitebooks and 2 Probooks, solid build and performance.
Having said that my previous business laptop was a FujitsuSiemens that happily ran for 7 years.
I think business class laptops are generally good.

Good shout on the i7 model. I'm not an expert on CPU architecture but had a quick look at this comparison:
http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-6500U-vs-Intel-Core-i5-6200U

For my needs it wasn't with the extra money for a very marginal gain.

I've always found HP to have noisy fans & have heating issues.Even after replacing the fan cleaning the inside of the laptop & applying new thermal paste it still does not sort the issues.Just poorly built airflow from what I've seen.

This machine is licensed for W10 but has been downgraded to W7 as it is marketed as a business laptop and many business' would prefer W7.

It will come with recovery media to allow W10 to be reinstalled onto the machine
