For anyone who purchases this, albeit it is a good deal, the chipset is entry-level, it is in the absolute low end of 2018 CPUs and only suited for basic tasks.

Thanks, OP! Very interested in this...waiting for a few comments before I jump in.
I presume, with no optival drive, windows has to be installed via usb... is that a simple process?
Good deal not sure about OS

Good deal not sure about OS

They're expecting you to install windows (or Linux), not actually use the installed OS. I imagine it's garbage.

Very simple. Just make a USB from Windows site and put it in the laptop before booting up.

If you already have a Win 10 license you wish to transfer link it to your account first

Thanks for the advice, but I was attracted by the 8GB ram and SSD. If it's a fairly simple process, I'll attempt to install windows myself.

Has no optical drive, yet second picture shows optical drive (even on eBuyer's website)... confusing much?
Download a light os like Linux Mint and you will have a capable machine for surfing/shopping and media. Heat.
That CPU is slower than an Intel J4005, which means its not going to be very nice to use for anything other than 1 basic task at a time. Intel still owns the super budget end of the market with things like the J4005 and J5005 etc.

In a word, yes. Download the Media Creation tool from Microsoft, and when you run it, follow the instructions to write the Win10 installer to a USB stick. Then boot the laptop off the USB stick, and install as if it was a CDROM
My daughter has got an ageing (2016) Lenovo Ideapad 310 Laptop (Intel Core i3, 8GB RAM). Any ideas if this would be a reasonable step in the right direction for uni work, watching Netflix, etc? Thanks

That isn't accurate, the a6 is poor. Atom x5 level multi core performance.

A downgrade, presuming it's an i3-6006u? If it doesn't have an SSD buy a 250-500gb and it will be a night and day difference. Just a little uncertain whether that model has a free M.2. slot as you could then keep the existing drive.
The CPU is a single module Excavator based CPU.

Very good price. A couple more quid for a Windows 10 Pro license key and Bob could be your uncle too!

Making a media USB stick to install Windows from has been simplified a great deal with Win 10.
For fresh installs, boot from the USB stick to allow you to completely wipe the HDD/SSD before Windows installs by deleting any previous partitions. It just gives you the assurance that the entire disk is clean before Windows starts to do its thing.
Connect up with a LAN cable when carrying out the install so that when Windows launches, it can download any missing drivers.
The whole install takes about 15 minutes these days.

There are a few minor tweaks that you'll need to do to make sure you get the option of installing the right version of Windows 10 (relates to the ei.cfg file - read below).

See Bigspin's very useful tip he shared :
Bigspin13/11/2019 17:03@TopTrump next time when you want to force install Win 10 pro follow the method below. That way you can create usb install disk with latest windows updates and select the version during installation. intowindows.com/how…10/

Good point I was looking at the numbers on the older revision of the AMD chip. So I was mistaken. It's still a fair bit slower than a J5005 and that is just about usable a light use machine. The rest of the specs are good, just a shabby CPU.

Your i3 started life in 2010 as a reasonable CPU, dual core with hyper-threading and a decent clock speed. It's aged well.

I have the Lenovo with similar specs, infact exactly the same, windows 10 pro installed and it's very slow... youtube freezes at the start, some web pages take ages to load and it's most definitely not my internet as I have 80mb solid. Not sure about these now, thinking of returning but ebuyer doesn't take back open items, spend more and get a better machine. Mine is a6 9225 256gb ssd 8gb ddr4 ram same same

Nope. Youre better off installing a fast ssd into the lenovo.
Cant this even run 1080p on youtube

exactly this
RAM and SSD can't make up for a poor CPU, and an i3 no matter what age will outshine this all day long.

HP Chromebook 14 - db0003na

Looking for first budget computer for 8yr daughter manly going to be used for school work / roblox and I can install Windows os myself
I've had a HP laptop and as mentioned they're horrendously slow.

I'd spend on something a little bit more expensive with more longevity

i would say you have a fault somewhere. Not normal behaviour.
the cpu is a potato, excavator is really past its best and even for this much its just not worth it, im surprised amd hasnt axed all excavator apus from their lineup when it probably just makes the average person dislike amd for being very slow even when its in a cheap laptop/
It's a good price but the CPU makes me sick. Only good if you're browsing or doing light tasks, anything more and it will struggle hard.

I know I would like to think that but other people have mentioned similar issues. I think its just a slow processor. I literally bought the laptop just to use chrome and excel, word etc. Nothing too heavy but I feel let down because even chrome struggles. I purchased the Lenovo v145 a6 9225
Abit off topic but I'm looking for a laptop for my daughter who needs it for school work general browsing and Netflix does anyone have any decent recommendations under £250 or is it worth waiting for black friday?

it will run, you wont have a good experience in the slightest though, assuming your looking for a laptop you'd want one with the ryzen 3 2200u or 3200u and for a generally decent experience a 2500u or 3500u.

as with all apus especially if you intend on playing games you will want to make sure it uses dual channel ram for better performance from the igpu, as quite a few laptop makers gimp the igpu by using single channel ram with no option to upgrade.
