Need to change the title, you're saying £229.98. It isn't it is £299.98, a £70 difference!!
I was tasked to buy my grandad a laptop for £300 or less the other day. This is the one I chose because it seemed to be the best value easy. Straight away 8gb is rare at £299, then a 256gb SSD is also very rare at this price, then to have both of those AND 1080p screen probably only leaves literally less than 5 laptops that has all those. The processor is quite decent for the price too. With the SSD any normal stuff should be quick. I was going to post this deal back then but i forgot.

Then it's in the EXACT same case/shell/whatever as the G6 £450 i5 laptop that is posted here a lot which I also discovered and bought a couple of years ago. It's very slim and light with a decent battery. It doesn't feel cheap like some people said, it feels at least average and since £299 is well below the average laptop price it's definitely not something that anyone can complain about. The screen isn't great outdoors but again it's just £299, the screen is good for that price.

It doesn't have a disk drive but that's been a plus to me for the past 3 years. Just think of how 1/4 of the space in a laptop normally gets used by a disk drive that gets used maybe once a year. Just get rid of it and use the space for better heat management(the i5 version stays coo and silent), more battery, and/or slimmer design.

But yeah basically this is amazing value imo. If you care you can get like 1.5% cashback on some sites. They also do FREE next day delivery even if you order at 10pm which is just insane, very very few sites will do that. That's Amazon prime quality but without having to pay. Just think of how even £299 will barely get you a low range phone these days and a normal flagship is £800+ so expecting to only pay £299 for an amazing laptop is unreasonable.

I've not used it yet though. I'm gonna go set it up for him tomorrow so i'll know exactly how good it is then.

Buy buy buy.

You'll happily deal with a poor screen and plasticky materials for those specs at this price surely?

I think this customer's review sums it up.

Very capable laptop.
SSD is lightning fast, boots up in seconds. Especially with a clean install of Windows.
Has handled everything very well so far - great specs for the price.

BadPoints−Screen is poor. Very hard to get viewing angles right.
As a cheap laptop, the case and keyboard all feels very basic. Plastic and flimsy.

Mainly work, I like the 2 in 1 one's, but hard deciding, plus how good are their refurbished ones, I've even looked on Dell outlet.

Ideally want a 1080p, 8gb ram, min 256gb ssd or 1tb hd, CPU either Ryzen 3, 5, Intel i3 or it, heard amd 6 and 9 are poor.

Just fed up of looking the Lenovo other day that was £325 seemed ok but every review said the screen was pants so didn't bite, this one is similar only difference it's a hp and Ryzen 3, the other was Lenovo same spec but with Ryzen 5

I think with Lenovo you have to spend a bit more. Hp you can normally get a decent one at a lower price. Laptop directs I got mine from and it’s been spot on but I see you’re dilemma

Good insight, but be good to see your thoughts after actually setting it up and using it.
Heading still says £229.

One thing, iirc, this has a single 8GB DIMM. Ryzen really needs dual memory to get best performance.
This is why buying a laptop is a pain, at this rate I'll be waiting till black Friday deals lol

Yes, you can upgrade it. Found a video for you. Good luck

I would not install win7 on it. Mainly due to drivers and win10, despite all the people who swear against it, is fairly stable and useable.

Is this any good for gaming? I don't care about the newer high demanding games, but games from a couple of years back maybe? There's a few PC games I wanted to play from a few years back, but didn't want a high powered machine to play them.
Thanks.
This is fantastic spec and great screen size and 256gb ssd is great too. If I was looking for a laoopt I would grab this up for my own use. I don't know about the cpu though and batter life?

Helps putting a second DIMM in it. Which would need to be an 8gb one.

If you search YouTube, you'll find a load of videos to give you an idea of gaming capabilities.

Personally I decided to spend the extra for a Ryzen 5 machine.

Here's the service manual h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg…pdf
Looks like the SSD (M.2 format) and hard drive slot use the same space(**), so can have one or other but not both. But yes, upgradeable if you're happy to take the whole back of a laptop off.
See pages 37 and 40 of the manual.
(**) or not (sharing the same space). Looks the the M.2 SSD and hard drive slot are separate https://www.hotukdeals.com/visit/comment/37677352/16133126

PS. Hot price. It's 2 years since HUKD last had a laptop with these specs (8GB memory, 256GB SSD, FHD screen and decent CPU).
