Ticks the main boxes :- ok cpu, large 8GB memory, large 256GB SSD and even Full HD. Cheap and nasty plastic shell but, hey, its a budget laptop.
I think the £300 Medion is better value (smaller screen, less memory)

Personally I think this is the better option, with one caveat. I think the memory in this is single channel - the Ryzen APU gives best results in dual channel, so you won't get the best graphical performance from this.

Still, better than the 7th Gen i3 in the Medion. And Medion don't always have the best results for reliability, which is a bit strange given their parent company (Lenovo).

This is an absolutely perfect 'mum' laptop for exactly the sort of price you'd want to pay. Good deal.

If you want to upgrade It says there are two slots and 16G maximum supported , but it might be a bit of a pain to get to it, going by previous models like the G5.

Yes, but most people won't need that amount of RAM, it's another £50, and ultimately it's a budget machine.

From the service guide though, apart from prising off the rubber strips, it doesn't look too bad.

I would go for this Lenovo Ryzen instead, for a better IPS screen, both Acer and this HP has a TN display.
The Lenovo at Argos is the 3 cell battery version.
Also, don't forget to claim your Argos £10 gift voucher.

Thanks for that. Do you have a link at all to this laptop with Argos and price?

Sorry, forgot to add a link. It seems the price has gone up, was £529.99 yesterday. argos.co.uk/pro…982

Just noticed, the Acer has the newer basic dedicated AMD Radeon 530X card, so the graphics capabilities would be better than the Lenovo.

But again, that's significantly more expensive than this deal. For most people, unless they are gaming/demanding, this one would suit them absolutely fine.

I want to use it to work from home about once a month and have to log in to my desktop through VMWare software, will the HP laptop be enough?

Not quite sure what you mean - it should be capable of running something like VMWare Workstation.

If you are talking about something like VSphere or VMWare View / VDI or the modern equivalent, all the processing is done elsewhere, so it would be absolutely fine.
Is it better model in terms of long time reliability battery backup, performance, waranty

Assuming this is 2x 4gb, then I think this may well be. HP are known for at least having the nous to put their memory into dual channel and I think this may be the case here.

This really is such a nice deal - I cannot find much information on the screen quality though - anyone have any solid idea?

It depends - both config description on the page say 1x8GB - I suppose you could look for the HP service guide, but even then, it might not say.

How about the screen on this, any ideas?

I've tried looking for general reviews on the G7, but cannot find anything conclusive.

Afraid not - though having wandered round a PC World recently (only place locally with PCs on display, there is a wide mix of HP screen from good to not so good.
I purchased this notebook from Ebuyer on 4th February. It's extremely light in comparison to the Samsung which I had had for many years (Shame they don't make laptops anymore). There are a few things I have noticed, that once you remove some of the bloatware the laptop flies. However, I experienced something very strange with this laptop. It came with Windows 10 Home pre installed and after it did an update, the right hand corner of the screen showed that windows was not activated.

When I checked the system info, the update had some how installed Windows 10 Enterprise and there was nothing I could do to get it activated or back to the original Windows 10 Home. Factory reset didn't work nor did using a digital license. Ebuyer weren't very helpful to be honest, and it was HP who finally had to send me the operating system on USB as it has no CD drive. This did resolve the problem but then took forever to update, so I had to send it back for a replacement.

Note this is a business laptop, so you need to contact HP business to get issues resolved.
