I bought this from Argos a couple of weeks ago for £39.99. It had a small pack of 6x4 photo paper in the box.

Nice spot. Gone for this.

not too bad.

Hot, just ordered thanks

Only problem is that genuine cartridges have chips on them which need to be carefully removed and stuck on non-hp cartridges - you then lose ink levels in the software and get nag screens from the printer. Genuine 364 cartridges will set you back close to £30 for a set of five standard cartridges. XL cartridges will set you back twice that.

Dont think there's any way of reprogramming the chips..

Thanks - ordered

Expensive ink and reputed to have inefficient/clunky software too.

The purchase price of a printer really is close to irrelevant since it's the ink use which constitutes the majority of cost over its lifetime. I'd only ever look at Epson and Canon - they're not perfect but they do offer the best overall balance of value/quality/usability (though even then some models are poorer).

Could anyone reccomend a decent printer, starting up online business and will need it for invoices/ printing stickers, postage notes etc. many thanks

If it's for business use you may want to consider a laser printer (inkjet looks very unprofessional if it gets wet and smudges). I've had great experience with a Samsung CLP-315 colour laser (now superceded but a few around at Currys/PCW for £60ish). Full set of original toners available from Amazon for just over £100 but they last ages. Later model is a bit more (wait for reductions) and there are Wi-Fi versions too if that matters. Alternatively a B&W laser is cheaper still. The Samsung lasers are the smallest around.

If you go inkjet Tesco and other places have an Epson for £49.99 (SX425W I think) which has a scanner and is Wi-Fi too, or if speed matters try the Epson BX525WD in PCW/Currys currently down to £99.99 (with larger capacity inks included). Compatible inks not available for these yet but they're coming. I'd personally stick with Epson or Canon. HP have issues as mentioned in thread, Lexmark don't have a great reputation for reliability. With minor brands it can be difficult or impossible to get cheaper ink.

Are the likes of HP and Epson still pre-programming their ink cartridges and printers to stop working or display servicing errors after a certain amount of time or has that unethical practice been stopped now? Haven't bought a printer in a long while.

do you need to connect a ethernet cable at the back?? or is this actually wireless!!!

me too - its a gooden.

Just ordered one my self
Official inks are around £6 for black and colours (200 pages)

And xl cartridges are between £10 and £13 (750 pages)

I bought a wireless printer @ Argos Clearance for around the same price and wouldn't be without it now!!

NEVER want to use a cable for a printer ever again ... Especially as I had to move it around because of my laptop

I can even print in bed and the printer is downstairs
