:-D

One of bizarre occurances where:
£161.10 buys you the printer
£182.26 buys you the subsequent set of replacement cartidges (+ p&p less any discounts).
And if the printer is initially supplied with limited-capacity "get-you-started" cartridges, you'll be feeding it very soon after purchase.
Anyone know if it is supplied with limited or full capacity cartridges?

Sounds like colour lasers are being sold in comparable terms to inkjets - i.e. give the printer away and make all of the money on the consumables!

From the HP website

What's in the box
HP Color LaserJet 1600 Printer, power cable, CD (includes user’s guide and printer software), getting started guide, output tray extension, paper tray cover, 4x HP Color LaserJet Introductory Print Cartridges (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) with HP ColorSphere Toner with up to 1,000 pages yield (based on 5% coverage).

Confirmed. ;-)

refilltoner.com/Mac…600

I assume the introductory carts can be filled to full capacity, though. Using refills, it works out to £70 for all the colours including black.

OK, to précis the above:

projected life of cartridges supplied with printer = 1000 sheets
projected life of new replacement HP cartridge = 2500 sheets
i.e. the cartridges supplied with the printer are 40% full (or 60% empty!).
Cost of new set of genuine HP carts = £180+.
Cost to refill the set of HP carts supplied with printer = £70 (assuming the "get-you-started" carts can be refilled).

Even allowing for printer food costs, this still seems a good deal for a quality printer.

Is the resolution not a bit low too? We have a migicolor 2300dl and that 2400 x 600 which is only really ok for A4 photo's...

Very cheap though for a laser!

It will be worth noting the yield and cost of a drum too and what is 5% coverage about? 4 colours each at 5% = 20% of the page?
