Just spotted this and it took me a while to get my head around it ... but **IF** you buy the lappy and then a backpack and speakers ... you can claim £90 cashback .. ( the back pack and speakers will cost £50 )
so you spend just under £395 .... get £90 back ..... and voila ... the lappy has just cost you just over three hundered quid ....

This might just be the deal that keeps giving ......

1) Buy this laptop between 26 Jun 2009 and 31 Jan 2010, then please Click Here. to see how you can enjoy the benefits of the new Windows 7.0 Operating System.

2) Purchase a qualifying HP Laptop and get free Cloud Wi-Fi, worth £118 subject to Terms and Conditions.

OK so you might have to buy a few stamps, new ink for your printer ( what with all the claim forms ) ... but a free UPG to win 7 ( that got to be worth £40 ) and the free cloud wifi worth £118 ... this deal just gets better ..

Did you know that all those "free" Windows upgrade cost between £27 and £35, depending who supplies it?

You can get a full retail version of Windows 7 for £30.

The "free" upgrade is the biggest Microsoft rip-off to date.

BTW, the Celeron in this model isn't even the new dual core. You get the Compaq CQ60 with much better specs for the same price everywhere without the hassle of cash back. It is a very good laptop but this offer is clod, I'm afraid.

There have been plenty of offers here on hotuk for retail versions between £30 and £44. I have not kept the details because I don't want Windows 7 (you could try search).
If you keep an eye out and DON'T RUSH into buying, you will probably get it even cheaper next year. It's not really a new version and when people start realising this, MS will have to give it away disguised as a SP. (there is nothing in Windows 7 which you cannot do with Vista, on the contrary, MS has restricted or cancelled many options of Vista in 7). The fact that Windows 7 runs faster than Vista is that MS has tweaked the OS. You could do this yourself if you knew how to.

The HP Windows 7 upgrade deal actually costs around £22 (termed as shipping and handling I think) as you get directed to a 3rd party site who is dealing with it all for HP. I assumed it was a free upgrade but found out different when I clicked through to action it about a month ago! Now undecided about whether to proceed.

The PC manufacturer sets the price not Microsoft, the only manufacturer I've come acros that offers FREE Win7 upgrade is Lenovo (but not sure if they do for the lower-end ranges)

Haven't seen it at £30 (yes, there's a student offer for this price but that's upgrade version, not retail

Cheers for info, I always knew MS were a pack of sneaks but this takes the biscuit. "Lets box last years cronk up as this years sexy new model and tell everyone its faster - but tell no one that it's because it's been defeatured" ..... I think I'll keep my powder dry on this one ( the win 7 bit ) .... and keep an eye out in the new year for offers on my cornflakes box top :-)

Every day's a school day huh ?
