Although refurbished, great specs for a computer built to withstand even the clumsier of users.

Perfect, that's how it should be for 100% of 1366x768 users.
im focussing on age and a knackered battery. cold for me.
The processor is about as powerful as an 2nd gen I3 2370M and less powerful then a pentium G2020.

Complete with all the benefits (er?!) of an old laptop....

There were i3 4005U's being mentioned on here for around £250 recently.

Cold but very cold from me I'm afraid as you can get much newer machines for the same money with similar build quality and similar performance eg.

rectech.co.uk/8,1…tml
£239.99 - E5440 i5 4th gen processor and twice the hard drive capacity, likely to still be in the warranty period and has W8 for the same money just with a few scuffs on the case. For me it's a no brainer

rectech.co.uk/7,1…tml
£199.98 - X230 3rd gen i5 processor, larger hard drive, ultraportable laptop and still in warranty.

Also the 8440w likely will have a discreet nvidia quadro graphics card that won't benefit you doing gaming but will take away from the world of battery life.

If it was £100 less then I'd give it heat but it's a 5 year old laptop with unknown state of it's battery and there are so many competing options available that outclass it and in some cases for less money.

it's a good machine but unfortunately not at this price

Seems like on every benchmark on that list (your choice of website) that the 2370m is about the same?

I cant see how you determine that. 4 out of 5 it beats its rival. That is a clear winner overall.

Sadly benchmarking isn't a most category victories is best situation (it's not a popularity contest). These 2 processors are pretty similar in overall performance. Very little between them and no real person would be able to work out which is which from a double blind test without of using bench testing like that website has been presenting or actually checking which is which.

Besides all that I don't think you read and understood what I originally said, which was The processor is about as powerful as an 2nd gen I3 2370M.

There is very little difference between the results in those test on the page you linked too. They are "about" the same.
