Yes specially with the 3 year care pack, I was going to go for the x360 but hear a lot of people are having issues with the hinges and also Intel drivers are always better than AMD.
If I had not already purchased the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3, which I am happy with, I may have bought this as potentially better value for money! The hardware spec on this is much higher than my i5 Microsoft Surface Laptop 3.

Only major issue, if used outdoors, may be the reflective screen.

Voted Hot.

choosing intel mobile over a 4000 based on drivers is a really edge excuse!
The only reason we still have intel laptops being sold is due to the massive presence intel has there, plus the marketing clout.
Us consumers dont really have any reason to buy an intel laptop unless its the only one you can get (as per my previous sentance, a lot of manufactures are being really slow in building amd laptops) or its silly silly cheap, like the lenovo 'exploit' we got earlier in the year!

Not knocking Ryzen but I've used both, intel drivers are always better and more refined, don't like the display settings app from AMD.

Also at this price a i7 is a no brainier.

this is one of the best screens with 1000 nits, more than enough brightness for outdoor and video editing.
Have this exact spec but last year's model. Gotta say it's an amazing machine and good build quality, not caused me any problems and the screen is amazing to work on inside and out (I do no photo/video editing, only programming and watching movies etc). Fingerprint sensor is hit and miss but looks to be different on this model
Thanks op, i cancelled the envy and got this instead as it seems much better with the screen.

I've been researching for laptops for weeks, settled on this now, price was over a £1000 yesterday.

Been reduced on amazon too but to £1049 and that's without the extra warranty.

Historically (3+ years) Intels graphic drivers have been a nightmare, really buggy.

Maybe, I've not noticed anything major, AMD has been bad since the start of time lol

i think it was the screen that won me over and the future proof wifi 6 too.
Same price via Health Service Discounts for anyone who has access to it.

You will have to go on the Envy laptops to see the deal.

I have the exact same machine too. I've used it for 4k video editing and it's fantastic !! Great laptop and I have had no issues with it myself. Agree with your fingerprint sensor comment. Would definitely recommend.
Hi - does anyone know what the battery life is like?
And is it capable of playing modern games?
Colin43219/08/2020 15:12

And is it capable of playing modern games?

Yes it will, but to be honest it's a ultrabook not made for hardcore gaming.
Apart from the price how does this HP model compare to the New Dell XPS 13 2020 i7-1065G7 (there's a separate there) - performance / build quality? My work laptops have previously been Thinkpad/Dell XPS and don't have much experience with HP laptops.

I went in store to check both out, not sure what the hype is about the xps 13, this feels more premium to me.

Similair spec XPS your looking £1500
Mines just been dispatched, ordered this morning.
I got this exact model a couple of weeks ago. Fantastic machine, only drawback is the fan can get very loud.
Nice spot OP, just had a check and the 4500u x360 has also dropped £45 to £675, but obviously a much lower spec.

Yes I seen that too, but thought I'd invest in a better spec as these ultrabooks are not easy to upgrade, the specs on this are insane.

Yeah, I was sorely tempted but decided to go for the 4500u and convertibility, battery life and price - mainly as it'll be a stopgap until USB 4 comes out and AMD will have thunderbolt so should bump them (4800u etc.) into more manufacturers' premium thin and lights for 2021
I have this laptop, it’s excellent

i paid a similar price to this a year ago with Blue Light discount directly from HP when the RRP was about £1200

Only thing I don’t like about it is what someone mentioned above, the fingerprint sensor to unlock it is ropey at best
Anyone any idea how this would compare to a 4700U-based machine? Guessing the dedicated graphics are a bit (but not much better). I'd expect the Ryzen with 8 cores to demolish this in multi-task or highly-threaded workloads though.
And is the memory expandable? Is there a spare memory slot?
Colin43219/08/2020 17:50

I don't think so, that's why I ordered the 16GB instead of the 8GB version.

This. And does anyone know if the thermal solution been designed to allow for maximum performance and minimal throttling please?

It's a really slim ultrabook so I would expect some throttling for demanding tasks
Does anyone know the weight?
I wonder what the reasoning is behind the MX350 - only capable of gaming at 720p in some games, can manage 1080p medium in low demand titles, barely 25% better than Ryzen 4xxx onboard graphics. Funny one.

Understood and agreed. But there is a level of influence that the designers have eg. using 2 as opposed to 1 heat pipe to achieve better thermal performance and *reduced* throttling.
