Looks to be a good deal if the code works. Heat.

Not a bad price but it only has 1st generation i7, old series graphics and only a 720p screen. Not voting either way

My personal thinking is that an SSD is a must at this price lever

With winter approaching this makes sense.

Either you're commenting that this is a hot deal.

Or you're subtly mentioning the well-known overheating issues with these...

Shame they've ruined it with a 720p screen. If it had been a 1080p screen, I would have snapped it up.

Do not buy i brought this laptop from Dixions for £520 and you cannot update the graphics driver at all without a BSOD.

laptop will crash and lag due to this on many new games as it uses catalyst 8.7.....

So stay away if you want to play games...

This can't be a good deal. We are talking a first gen i7 here. Ok 4GB RAM and ATI discrete graphics are something of a consolation but I can get an i3 or i5 for cheaper than this, with the RAM and maybe discrete GPU for less than this. This is hugely over priced. As some above has mentioned. It has cooling issue as well. How great is that for a laptop? I don't even think the build quality is good enough to pay above the competitors.

Cold from me sorry.

Note: The i5 second gen will thrash the crap out of this.

With this and no USB 3.0 ports, it's a cold from me.

I have a 1st gen i7 vaio it has run everything I have thrown at it so far, ok not all in top res , but witcher 2 , bf3 beta , dead island all run well, not bad for a lappy I didn't intend on using for games...

Why would you want full HD on a 15.3" screen, you are pushed to see the difference between 720 and 1080 until you get a 32" screen or bigger.

It's a not bad laptop, but I'd rather have a faster i5 CPU, than a slowed down i7, the ATi graphics chip is fairly low end, so it seems to be trying to look like a monster spec, but is actually pretty mid-spec. You could do alot worse than this for a laptop, but it is not very cheap, so hardly a hot deal.

I can't say this is a deal. Occasionally you can grab a Dell XPS 15 for this price with up-to-date i7's and nvidia graphics.

Hot as in it overheats ridiculously, hence the sell-off

i7-720QM is like an oven.

That argument only really applies to TV's - higher resolution on a PC screen means more room for apps, larger maps when gaming, easier photo-editing etc.

The gpu in this is excellent and gives similar benchmarks to the nvidia gt555m (e.g. the best gpu you can find in an xps 17 and better than all xps 15) saying that I know nothing of this laptop apart from that so I suggest you read lots of reviews but on paper a very decent gaming laptop

The cpu is not as good as the I7 name would suggest, however the built quality of envy is outstanding, comparable with mac pro.

I bought this machine late last year from Curry's online, and I paid a hundred quid less then.

It's a nicely designed and fairly solid machine, but it used to get so hot it was unreal. As in uncomfortable to touch hot. The screen is also a huge disappointment. I sold it for a small profit some three months later.

most laptop haved got 3.0 usb port in them yet plus it be sometime for ppl to change over to usb 3.0 so u got a couple of years yet lool .. on a second note it a very good all round laptop :-D

I had this laptop, it WILL burn you, overheats crazy, battery life is non existent

I voted hot before I read all the overheating comments - ah well.

Screens are awful on these, they all have a yellow tinge to them oh and HP consumer laptops are rubbish.
How can I say this?, I work for HP.

my mistake thought another cashback deal from HP like the Probook 4530s lol...

envy - my favourite laptop pc series

PS: true- my envy 1050ea gets hot under stress however it's very stable never crashed even during 12h star-craft (set on full) session in the middle of summer

is there ever going to be a laptop on here that gets positive feedback ? This isnt a criticism of the OP or posters just an observation in general.........

Decent spec on paper, but every HP product I've owned in the past has had issues at some point so I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

not as good as the dell offer that has sadly expired. I was in 2 minds about that one.

Picked up one of those cheeky £220 hp laptops (with cashback) from ebuyer yesterday. Been assured I will be able to claim from hp customer service.

Obviously no where near a powerful, not bad for an i3 tho

Despite it is numbered as a high-end graphics card (4830), its performance is around a NVidia 540m (middle class card).

its very funny on this forum how everyone slates the deals because they're not the latest technology. What the hell are you expecting at this price? For the average consumer this laptop would be a pretty good purchase. For the people who reside in the rooms for hours on ending playing games and looking at dirty pictures it probably won't float your boat but look elsewhere with your big wads of cash.
