Shame it's not 13" or I'd snap that up! Heat anyway

Anyone have any idea if this would be decent at playing CS:GO? Doesn't have to be high settings just a decent FPS. Thanks.

Does anyone know if this comes with a DVD drive? No mention in the spec but the picture seems to show a DVD drive. Thanks

Agreed
But I can't think what this is if it isn't a DVD drive

Thanks. And how does the processor fair against say Intel? Is this similar to say an i5? Thanks

So I'd say yes it will.

Pick up some ear plugs to go with this. Sounds like an actual hovercraft.

Is that true? I only ask because I owned a HP laptop with an AMD processor maybe 4-5 odd years ago, and I do remember it being as loud as a hoover, especially once the heat of the processor bumped up to the 70s.

Er - don't you find full HD too small on 13" ?

Prefer it for portability tbh, if I'm some doing intense usage usually just connect it to a larger monitor

Voted hot - but are there any AMD APU laptops that are configured to run in dual-channel mode? This one isn't (one stick of 8GiB instead of 2x4GiB) - which cripples the integrated graphics.

5400rpm HD isn't too great either tbh but large capacity is the upside.

I bought this laptop and straight away there was an issue with the Internet, apparently an ongoing problem. I was told needed to update bios and drivers, but for me these updates still didn't work

The model I've got is a j151sa. It's ridiculous how loud it gets. Even when its hardly doing anything. The screen is awful too. If this is anything like mine I'd advise you to avoid.

I used to have one of the DV models from HP with discrete graphics. Horrendously noisy fans under load. Sounded like a hairdryer at 100%. HP don't seem to do well with benign fan signatures and efficient cooling systems when it comes to their consumer laptops. Oddly, their business laptop range was fine in terms of fan noise.

I had same issue about noise on Compaq laptop same company. eventually it died. it was heating up very quickly and fan was working very hard. it was CQ071 model and AMD processor. I would no recommend HP or any other made by same company.

The only HP I would buy is the brown sauce.
Seriously keep away from this Brand, very poor builds.

I'm not very techie (but I like to think not a complete plum either!) can anyone tell me, in laymans terms, how this compares from the Lenovo Very deal?

I don't know if I'm asking too much but I want a laptop for general surfing, office documents, and using Photoshop (not moving video and quote basic). Don't play any games and don't expect lighting speed, just something that works and ideally around the £300 mark.

Thanks,

S.

i own a hp. do not reccommend at all. fan noise is horrendous and overheats like crazy and shuts down. so buy at your own risk

We had a couple of similar HP machines at work with the same issue. They issues a BIOS update to reduce the amount of time the fan came on but we also found the fan itself vibrated. Easy fix to whip off the bottom and use a tiny piece of electrical tape to secure it a bit better.

I've found the consumer models design, coupled with the fact they tend to be used more on carpets, chairs, laps etc, means they suck in more dust. The fans tend to get jammed, more noisy and eventually fail.

Banned

I wish they had the 13" inch version! My old one was so loud, but great with most games and lasted ages on battery! Good find though, heat added!

The CPU is ok but the hard drive is a killer for me, "1 TB 5400 rpm SATA" under windows is going to be cripplingly slow vs. the £550 SSD models.

I have RAID 0 7200 rpm on my old laptop and that's unbearably slow.

Someone buy me this

An SSD is only £30...buy a hdd caddy to replace the dvd drive (if it has one) and use the 1tb hdd in that for storage

EDIT: no dvd drive so scrap that idea!

Picture is probably inaccurate for this model. Have a 2 TB variant with no DVD drive although I think other variants do have a DVD drive.

Have you tried to fiddle round with the power settings to make your laptop run cooler that in turn will give you extra battery life because your fan isn't on all the time or at full blast youtube.com/wat…Vfk my Dell latitude laptop now runs silent and I get extra 20% battery life (fan only comes on when charging). I've done this to my dad's 2008 Dell Inspiron and instead of the fan being on all the time it now comes on intermittently (which is better than nothing).

Code not working?

I have a similar laptop - the envy 15 J series. One of the loudest fans I've heard. It's pretty annoying, but you only hear it when gaming or doing other really intensive tasks. It rarely reaches that level, and in Windows it's usually on the lowest fan level which is nowhere near as loud. In OS X 10.11, the fan is off 90% of the time (I guess that says something about Apple's software) But unless you edit movies all the time or game, you shouldn't necessarily have a problem.

Shame it's not 13" or I'd snap that up! Heat anyway

Same, exactly the machine and price I want buts it needs to be 13

Not impressed

an i5-6200U with HD 520 graphics is better.

I own a first gen Envy, that sounds like the red arrows area taking off :-P

You cant compare different laptops. People saying HP laptops are loud sound so stupid. How can people tag companies to their own personal experience with just one laptop.

This is an awesome price for an amazing laptop. And gone are those days when AMD used to sound like a rocket. Its dead silent just like an Intel i5 which still roars in my Dell laptop :-)

Received mine yesterday. Excellent build quality and nice screen. Processor a little slower than expected but good enough for my needs. No DVD drive as per the image on HP's website.

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+A10-8700P

that's the 35W version. in laptops they run at 15W so performance is not as good as that.
