Does the CPU eat a lot of juice and how does it compare to its Intel variant?

Seems like a great piece of kit

Top Processor? lol

Amd lol

I have an 8350 desktop, but I would never buy an AMD laptop.

It's a two module piledriver at 2.5-3.5Ghz so performance should be pretty good, somewhere between the typical i3U and i5U models you find in this sort of machine. I'm not sure about power consumption, mobile chips are hard to test, but It's likely to be somewhat higher.

Updated AMD graphics drivers depend on laptop manufacturer releasing them. Nvidia is better cos they can be downloaded from them directly. Their processors aren't as efficient as Intel either. Try to avoid AMD..

They can be downloaded from AMDs website HERE

These are pretty good on power for AMD chips, higher than the equivalent Intel i5 4200 but faster graphics so makes up for it.

Any 4th gen i3 or i5 will eat this for breakfast. Only exception could be in games as the onboard gpu of AMD chip is much better.

You wouldn't, but if you visit the McLaren workshop you'd see they would.

Yes the Intel's benchmark higher but a processor with a 20% better benchmark doesn't warrant being 50% more expensive than an AMD processor IMO.

battery may be a bit ass, but the actual look of the laptop etc. makes up for it I reckon. I would take out some sort of warranty plan with AMD though as the heat from the processor may damage components internally

Nonsense.

Back up to 599.

I have been trying to find a review for this machine but can't find any anywhere!! Only for touchsmart or other processors. Even HP don't sell anything with an A10 processor. Could anyone give advice on the A10 vs Intel ones please?

Hi, I've got this laptop.
In terms of gaming when you first get the laptop you need to right click on your desktop, select "Configure Switchable Graphics Options" then select "Switchable Graphics Global Settings" and change the 'Plugged In' option to Maximum Performance.
When you first get it it's set to power optimization and will not be able to run games very well. With these settings done it does run games fine. Nothing spectacular, but can run:
-Borderlands 2 medium settings 720p with 50fps,
-DAYZ medium settings 720p with 25fps (game runs horribly on even high-end systems)
-Any source engine game (Left 4 Dead, CS) in 1080p with 60fps,
-Payday 2 medium settings 720p 45fps.
Photoshop, After Effects and 3DS max also run perfectly.
It's by all means not a gaming machine but can run games about as good if not better than an Xbox 360/PS3 if optimized correctly.

Can you give some more info as to what's wrong with AMD please?

I wouldn't. The laptop warms up slightly sometimes, but never gets particularly hot. There's a good fan, which can be a bit loud sometimes, but I'm using it right now, the base of the laptop is at room temperature and the fan is silent.
