Thought I'll share this deal since I got this laptop after days of research and I think its well worth the money. Currys retail this laptop at £799.97. As you all are aware, they are running the £100 cashback promo, which brings the cost down to £699.97. Add the £50 discount on top from O2 Priority Moments, this brings the price down to a much affordable £649.97.

You don't have to read the blurb on my research if you are happy to take my word that this is one of the best performing and best value for money 17" laptop out there. Anyways, here it goes:

I wanted a 17" laptop for about the £850 mark good for multi tasking and giving a decent gaming performance. My main contenders were Dell Inspiron 17-7537, MSI GP70 and this one.

Positives:
Excellent Quad Core processor - Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ Processor (2.4 GHz, 3.4 GHz with TurboBoost, 6 MB cache) - Considered the best value for money i7 QC processor around (cpubenchmark.net/cpu…php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-4700MQ+%40+2.40GHz)
1920x1080 Full HD Resolution
4 x USB 3.0 ports
HD Webcam 720p
6 cell battery
Beats Audio
2nd Hard drive bay

Neutral:
12GB RAM - Could've been 16GB
1TB Hard drive - Could've been an SSD
NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M (2 GB) - Could've been an 840M
No Touchscreen - Could've had this

Negatives:
The build quality is nowhere near MSI, but other than that, nothing.

In comparison, Dell had i7 Dual Core (big -ve), 16GB RAM (+ve), 1TB Hybrid HDD (+ve), Touchscreen (+ve), 4 cell battery (-ve) for a higher pricetag - £765 @ dell's website (after discount).

MSI had 8GB RAM (-ve), 128GB SSD + 750GB HDD (+ve), No Touchscreen. Additionally, the big -ve about MSI is that RAM/HDD cannot be upgraded without voiding the warranty - £860 @ dabs.

As you can see, the HP offers the best value for money which ticks almost all the checkboxes. I have ordered an SSD and an 8GB RAM stick, costing me £140, which brings the cost of this laptop for me to £800.

This one doesn't have a touch screen. What you've got is probably a variant of this model! How much did you get yours for?

I paid £999 at Christmas

Wonder why it isn't getting much heat... it's so much better than the dell one posted last week (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/1974265).

Tempting... but wonder that if the O2 priority moment £50 discount can be used in conjunction with the £100 cashback as the terms & conditions of O2 priority moment states 'cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer'.

Original Poster

There shouldn't be a problem. I got the £50 off via priority and the receipt contained the information on how to claim cashback. And no where in the T&C of cashback have I seen that it cannot be used with O2 priority discount!

This has msata slot so you can buy cheap smata for super fast load times.

The touch screen one is 999, 899 after cash back. I bought it yesterday but it didn't work straight out of the box! PC world had none left in stock but refunded my cash without much fuss. Looked a great laptop too so a real shame. The version without the touchscreen looked nice too but the display quality looked nowhere near as good.

Not that impressive for the price.

How do u claim the 50 from O2 Priority Moments? I tried google but could not get any information... thanks guys!

Cheers mate!!
Have a good weekend.

The deal breaker for me is the 740M GPU. That's pretty weak and out of step with a quad core CPU. For £650/£700, I'd expect to be able to play games on this but that GPU limits everything.

Id spend a little more and get an i7 Inspiron. comes with a GT750 which is a big improvement over the 740.

Very good for the price. I'd consider if it wasn't Windows 8.

but not weak enough to be a problem with gaming or any application and it will be less power hungry, that dell has a 10 hour battery life!

I've had a 17" Touchsmart i7-4700MQ, it broke so I changed it for 15.6", the touchpads aren't great on these. I'll be selling mine soon anyway, as I'm just not using it. Mine's a refurb direct from HP USA, so has USA keyboard.

Any 15" laptops with a badass processor like this please?

15" laptops with a "badass processor" like this one are rarer (and typically a bit more expensive), as the smaller case makes it more difficult to cool all the components.

This is one example though:
pcworld.co.uk/gbu…tml - I think it was on here recently, so stock may be hard to find.

Thanks - I thought they would be cheaper! That's interesting though and makes sense. I guess I will look for a 17" instead.

Cashback lark cold

16gb ram is so overkill. 12gb is more than enough.

Not worth it considering the graphics card.

There are plenty, you just wont find them in places like PC World. If its a gaming machine you're after look for Gigabyte and MSI laptops. In the stores that sell those 15" are usually cheaper than 17".

I'd wait a few months. Machines are starting to come out with the 860M (part of the replacement for the 700 line) which is about 30% faster than the 750 yet the same price.

Dunno about the others.. but I own this one and can guarantee that it DOES have an optical drive.
