How does the ink thing work? If you've still got ink left no replacements until its run out? What's stopping you from putting an empty ink cartridge in to fool the printer?
They send cartridges when it gets 'low', judged by what's left and how often you've been printing.
I have some spares currently as I've been printing a lot on mine (700 pages per month for free from a previous offer).
If you cancel the subscription, the 'Instant Ink' cartridges won't print, as the printer needs an internet connection to print - to check your account is still valid.
You can switch to non-'Instant Ink' cartridges whenever you like and print from them without going into your monthly quota, quotas can be adjusted up and down during the month, you can even go up if you accidentally exceed a quota, assuming there is another band above what you've registered for.
The service for me has been amazing, can't fault it. I even know of some people who've said they've been able to cash the cartridges in for Tescos vouchers!
I personally mailed all my empty ones back in the prepaid envelope as requested.
I felt they at least deserved that
To add, below is a screenshot of one of my printer's account pages...
37778216-voDFO.jpgI've paid nothing (apart from buying the printer), so far since February and won't do.
Also of note, Rollover Pages build up until you use them, not sure if they can exceed your subscription level, but don't expire in the next month.
I will cancel just before final day - 17-18th Sept for me.
Just in case I forget, I've added a Revolut virtual card with no funds as the payment source, but I cannot see that happening.
I have cancelled a different HP printer that I got in Nov with 3 a months free ink trial with no problems.
I have just a few minutes ago bought another one to get a year's printing for £35, well 13 months with the FREEINK code or similar ... (thanks OP ).
I'm a teacher, so can now print lots of class sets of worksheets at home - colour ones at that!

You may be able to direct the printer to use your phone as a hotspot. I'm no expert on that. It may be different on different phones and phone operating systems. During setup when it asks for the wifi you may be able to direct to your phone's hotspot. Someone else, more technologically savvy, may know more.
Regards and best of luck!
This or a canon mg5750 ?

Doesn't this use a tricolour cartridge, meaning if you run out of one colour (after free ink is over), you need a whole new cartridge?

I've missed the instant ink deal and have no intention of deliberately adding to landfill by replacing a printer every time I need to replace cartridges.

Has two cartridges tricolour and black, so at least you can change black separately, and printing colour should use the different colour inks roughly equally. You have to do the maths I suppose, to come to a conclusion. But it seems that for everyday use, if you are printing mainly photos, the instantink service is the way to go, even at full price. There are still offers with instantink free months or credit.
