HP ENVY x360 2020 Edition Ryzen 7 4700u, 16gb RAM & 512gb SSD, with 3 Year Care Pack £900 from the HP Student Discount Store
Posted 15th Aug 2020

This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

Haven't seen this posted on its own anywhere, but of course please do merge this with another deal out there if I've missed it. It's a long-running discount offered on this unit through the HP student store.

One of the very few ultraportable options with the AMD Ryzen™ 7 4700U (2.0 GHz base clock, up to 4.1 GHz max boost clock, 8 MB L3 cache, 8 cores). Outstanding processor versus even i7 10th gen variants.

The unit itself has an excellent form factor, a healthy 16gb DDR4-3200 RAM, and a 512gb SSD.

Screen doesn't look too bad, FHD touchscreen with stylus compatibility. The larger bezels and slightly heavier chassis is what prompted me to go for the Dell XPS 13 over this, but at £900 with student discount and a Ryzen 7 4700U chipset, this is a very worthy competitor.

I'd be interested to see whether people would go for this over the Dell XPS 13 or Lenovo Ryzen 7 options!

Get this laptop through the HP student discount store (access via Unidays) for the £900 price (a £100 saving vs the normal price of £1000), and also get a free 3-year return-to-base service pack included too.

Allow up to 10 working days for delivery too.

Acutely aware that this isn't a budget option - of course knocking on the door of 1k is a premium price. But, I do think the Ryzen 7 4700u inside warrants the premium price tag, and at £900 for students I thought it's probably worthy of a post.

The link takes you to the normal store - you'll need to access the product through the HP eduaction store to get the price (go via unidays).

Lovely machine, such a shame hp don't offer the good quality screen in the EU.
Yeah I'm going to see this laptop in Currys later today along with few others with AMD chips inside. Looks like good deal but as above they only offer the 250 nit display compared to USA which gets 400 and 1000 nit options with better colour reproduction I believe. Also they get WiFi 6 but EU doesn't.

There was a code which took off another £80 on this about a week ago - may be worth looking around. Bought one myself - really nice unit and better quality than Dell XPS (for me, anyway)

Was discount code on hp website direct do you know?
bought this 2 weeks ago, really like the build quality and keyboard. Only things are the screen is like a mirror when trying to use it outside and it has crashed on me a few times already

Very annoying with the lack of WiFi 6 on here. Another reason that pushed me elsewhere. Unsure as to why the EU/USA spec levels differ so strongly
Yes, I used it on two different orders as it seemed to be new customer only, but it was 8% off. Worked with Student discount aswell.

No unfortunately not - had a check on the order but it just comes up as "discount"
Yes it's a know deal but haven't been posted as a standalone deal. People knew about this from the comment on the regular deal but still good deal nonetheless.

Yes indeed, just thought it was worthy of a little more exposure in its own right. Always a lot of lenovo deals on here, and thought the HP certainly deserved a proper shout out too

sorry i dont know the speeds, is there a way to check and i will ?
I've owned this for near on a month now, and overall it's been brilliant. The only issues I'd point out is that the 15.6 inch might be uncomfortable to hold for some people, and the GPU isn't great.

This one is the 13.3" model (don't know if there is a 15.6" - just a typo perhaps?)

Ah I see! How is the 15.6 - still portable enough? Love the extra real estate on 15", but just worry you sacrifice too much portability

If you're going to use it like a tablet frequently, I would actually recommend the 13 inch. The tablet mode on the 15 inch is fine, but there's an increase in weight, and is more ideal for sitting on a desk. I do use it like a tablet (mainly for watching videos), but it can get a bit uncomfortable to use over a long period ngl! All down to personal preference

Yes I wanted the bigger screen, went to see in flesh and the 15'6" laptop looks too big for my needs, 13" is perfect and I ordered this a week ago, still waiting for delivery.

I compared this next to other options like dell xps13, this looks a lot better.

What type of applications did you find the GPU not great? I'm looking to buy this for 1080p video editing
Ordered the 15" verison thanks It seems 13 and 15" are both £900.

I have had the 3700u model for about 10 months. Love it, the build is fantastic, the pen works well and the performance and battery are stellar.

I bet the 4700u model is an absolute beast.
I ordered this when it was supposedly in stock on Thursday it was supposedly going to arrive on Monday. Received an email this morning stating estimated delivery is now on August 28th and back to “waiting stock”..

Very helpful to know. I thought their website guidance was a little odd - "5-10 working days until dispatch". Looks to me like EU stocks are depleted and they're awaiting a shipment from manufacturing origin, which will likely be a lot longer than the advised 5-10 day period...
looks like a good laptop but think its still a bit expensive, £949 on Curry's eBay so i'd hope it would go sub 900 soon
Careful. The 4700u here performs about on par with a ryzen 4500u from a lenovo laptop becuase it's not allowed to suck as much power as lenovo allows on their laptops.
I've had an issue with the screen on this model flickering, wouldn't recommend and hp service really poor
I had a 13' version and the fan was really loud, too loud

Interesting, Is there a link/source to this?
I guess it depends what model Lenovo you're comparing to, I guess this may be restricted a bit due to the sleek design.

Nothing yet. Just using my work laptop while I decide on a replacement
Wanted this but heard about a few issues and settled for the 13 inch Huawei and saved myself 250. Possibly more if someone buys my free headphones off me.
