Poor Processor, but good price for a basic use laptop...heat

If reserve and collect could also make use of £5 voucher.... if you're lucky enough to have one... that hasn't been invalidated

Good price for a decent brand laptop. Basic spec, but should suit many people's needs just fine.

Not the greatest of laptops but when you can get something like this for the price of what some 10" cost have to give it some heat.

!!!!! looks ok!!!!!

This is the laptop I'm getting tomorrow but I have to get it instore! Does anyone know if I can get any discount instore ? Many thanks

It states no memory card reader - I thought they all had them now but obviously not. Good price.

What's the cpu comparable to, Celeron dual or single?

Edit: Celeron 900 single core.

Picked up a half descent one from the pound shop the other day, should it prove lacking.

It is classified as a "low mid range" processor on cpubenchmark.net with a score of 647. A Celeron 900 processor fares slightly better with a score of 764.

arghhh its my evil twin brother....i'm scared.

thanks

A few pounds cheaper than usual for this sort of spec so Hot.

I think that there is no built in webcam, which puts me off.... On the pictures there is no sign of a webcam on the device, and the same device with intel processor has "No Webcam " in description.
Also on the official hp website it says that it comes with webcam, but that is in the box. So in reality you would get a laptop and an external webcam. Is it true?

Quidco is a cashback site. Basically you become a member and then by clicking through their site to go through to the retailer you get a discount. Not always successful, but it's always nice to have a little extra discount if poss. Check out moneysavingexpert as they list a number of cashback sites.moneysavingexpert.com/sho…tes

What do you think is the webcam built in or it is boxed with the laptop? Did anyone already buy it? How does it feel? Iam looking for a cheap lappy for the old guy, just for internet and skype.

If you reserve it online to collect in store you can get the discounted price, this is what i did a couple of weeks ago when i bought 2 laptops for the kids for christmas. They did question why the price i had on my reservation (print it out and take it with you) but I just told them I put in a discount code when i placed the reservation. This was in the Lincoln store so maybe I just got a very halpful employee..

Not a deal breaker at this price surely? Built in web cams are normally quite basic. A cheap £20 standalone will do an excellent job. Obviously it is somewhat annoying carrying a cam around if you travel with your laptop-- another reason why video phoning is starting to take off, it's pretty neat doing it all on one small mobile device.
I've just realised I've never used my webcam before...

As already said the Celeron is slightly better, however you won't notice to much in real world computing. Prob only be an issue when you do something and your virus checker does a system scan.

For surfing the net doesn't matter at all.

@NinjaBaz - nailed it.... It needs to be a Intel based CPU at least, AMD is way back and not as good as it used to be.

Holy **** I can't believe nobody has mentioned the hotkeys.

Basically there are some really annoying hotkeys to the left of the last row of the keyboard but they aren't differentiated from the rest of the keyboard in any way so if you touch type this is useless because you end up opening calculator and internet explorer and other programs when trying to press anything on the last row i.e. shift, tab, ctrl, caps lock, etc.

Also they cannot be disabled.

A lot of HP machines seem to be using these hotkeys now which is why I think that they are so cheap and why they are trying to get rid of them everywhere although HP still seem to be bringing out more using them which implies nobody has complained.

Whoever designed those hotkeys needs to be tortured.
