what's this used for

Great deal, heat added. Loads of deals on the older N270 netbooks at the mo. Previous deals on the asus, compaq and msi. Windows 7 starter and 6 cell battery.

Windows 7 and a 6 cell battery - Hot price

Interesting article about Windows 7 starter

i guess quite handy if your monitor has hdmi input(s)

How does this netbook compare with a refurbished Samsung NC10 (£165 but with 3 cell battery, can get 6 cell for £20-£30 though)?

Is it worth the extra ££?

My friend has a HP laptop and I really like it..especially the keyboard.

Banned

While this is not a bad price, I think it's time n270 laptops dropped well under £200.

You also pay £100 more, before cashback, for it being better. And just to add, they both have LED backlit displays.

For that price, might as well get the HP Mini 210 series....

That's well outdated.

[...run only 3 concurrent applications on a PC at a time..]

No longer true. Didn't read the rest.

Whats the point in having a HDMI output on a netbook, the shared graphics, small hard drives and mini processors do not make them powerful enough to even run HD smoothly.

And I agree with the point already made I would not pay more than £200 for a standard N270/ 160GB/ 1GB RAM netbook nowadays.

"I would consider very carefully before buying this Product.
The reasons are as follows.
This Laptop, is an excellent Laptop as a product, from one of the best Laptop Makers.
The problem is the operating system
(1) most importantly, you "Can't" watch Vidoes, unless you are a very competant software person.
(2) not as important, but still a very bad design fault,
You cannot cannot connect to an External Monitor
bearing in mind it has a small screen.
(3) You cannot use your own "Wallpaper" (desktop photo), of your wife, girlfriend, holiday photo, etc.
(4) There are other minor points which can be easly sorted out..
In conclusion "Windows 7 Starter" is a "next to useless" operating system, as oposed to the full version which is at present excellent (we wait to see the faults pop up)..
My opinion is, don't by "any" netbook with "Windows 7 Starter".
My last words are "Windows XP", works perfect on "all Netbooks"."

Hook it up to a 2nd monitor for a larger display or presentations? Tis what I do with my 13" laptop.

Is this better than a "Eee PC" 1000h running XP home? (80 gb HD, 2gb RAM, 6-Cell batt) ?

Is it worth buying???

Most of this is not true,

1.You probably say you cant watch videos because you read that "Windows Media Center" is not included. This is not media player and does not prevent you installing your own media player. Its just a fancier media interface to use.

2. You can use an external monitor, again I think you are getting this from the disabling of multiple monitor support. If you use an external monitory however your laptop monitor will be disabled, you cannot use both at the same time.

3. This is the one part that is true, does it really matter? At best this would be a slight disappointment surely.

4. So since the only point you have left is the lack of desktop changing its hardly a useless OS.

Here is a real comparison

Yes ok for presentations with the portability aspect
But for normal day to day computing :whistling:

The N270, 1GB RAM and shared graphics mean the hardware is not powerful enough to run HD movies smoothly :whistling:

Netbooks are great little things but you'd have to be a few cards short of a deck if the main purpose of buying one is as a HD movie player... buy a ps3 and stick a 500gb hard drive in it and use an old desktop to download the movies and wack em on over to the PS3.

Silly questions for experts?? i'm not so here goes!
I'd buy for 11 year old daughter...
Can she get internet on?
MSN??
can you put DVD's in?
Play Music CD's?
Good value for money??

no optical drive, but you could buy a seperate external DVD drive.

They start at about £30 on ebuyer

Thanks' for the info!!

Why is this getting made so hot?

I got an IDENTICALLY specced Samsung, except with XP, but including 6 cell battery for £179.98 about 2 months ago!

Everyone chases the 6 cell versions like this (for long run time) but it adds a big lump under the 3 cell standard battery. Since portability is what a netbook is all about (not all day usage) I suggest you weigh up the cons as well as the pros.

Great little machine though. I got the Compaq version from CPW for £179 (3 cell, Win XP) and I'm absolutely delighted with it.

Any good for OSX?

But the catch is it's most likely no longer available - this is one of the most cheapest six cell battery netbook models I've seen of late.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Any good for OSX?

From what I can remember it is a good runner for Mac OS X but the only let down is the wireless card that's bundled with it is not fully compatible - there was work being done on resolving this on the Hacintosh forums out there.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Day to day, at home, if you have a spare of cheap 19" screen, it's quite nice to only to sit at a desk, but have a larger 2nd screen to work off. I do it all the time.

I never mentioned HD movies. I'd use a 19" screen for better working. When I'm at home I can hook my laptop up to a screen, and write ruby/use word in one screen and browser the internet on the other.
