£149.99 but with £80 cash back makes this a good deal heat added
This looks like a good deal. Lets get through the standard Q's:

1. What are the ink costs like - are compatibles available - and what are the consequences of using them with this particular unit?

2. What's the reliability like?

3. Any alternatives that are better for the final price?

4. Any problems/negatives/issues with this unit that we should take note of?

Heat OP.

Hi, I've looked into small office printers with fax. My previous HP6700 suddenly stopped with a print head failure after over 3 yrs, basically now for the bin. There's been lots of reports, not just HP of print head failures with an expectation that present day printers under £200 have a limited life. To be honest all the suppliers in this market have issues if you do the research. Ink wise HP is one of the lower cost, under 2p for a B/W letter page for example, with Epson one of the higher. I would not recommend alternative inks without risking the printhead. With the warranty you are at least guaranteed 3yrs. The HP6700 I had previous was great until it failed and this is an upgrade to that. I have purchased this printer and so far am pleased, much quieter in operation than previous model and faster with better scan resolution and bigger screen. As I said it did receive some good awards a couple of years ago when it was introduced, take a look, but at the end of the day it's your choice. Hope this helps, but is my personal opinion and findings.

It's an HP offer, like the cashback, you just have to register on the HP site. JL also give a 2yr guarantee with this printer, so more than covered. The cheapest I found this printer was £171 and that was with NHS discount of 10% so this is truly a good price.
Thanks
Exactly how does this cashback work?

Exactly how does this cashback work?

Hi, you need to go on the HP website and find the cashback redemption. Need scanned receipt, serial number and provide your bank details. They pay direct to your account within 60 days I think. It's all bone fide, no third party involved. It's also where you claim the 3yr warranty. This printer has £80 cashback, others are less, expires end July.

The reason I ask is because the link for cashback from the JL Website has nothing to do with this redemption

One last question - this printer is basically ready to go - includes all the toners and cartridges?
Yep, you get what they call start up cartridges, 4 in total, that's standard for all ink jets to get you going but should last for a good few hundred sheets. Takes about 10 mins to set up, there's a video on the screen that prompts you when to add the ink, paper etc after you turn on for first time. A set of high yield cartridges is just under £60, sounds a lot but will do a few thousand pages, I believe this is better than competition. The ones I was using on my old HP were about £40 a set but only did 800 pages, so this printer appears pretty efficient. For setup all you need is to clip in a small unit at the back, remember to remove all the tape and card in the paper tray and scanner before you turn on. Hope this help you decide.
Surprised this has not gone red hot...
A few questions:
1. does it do duplex scanning on the autofeeder?
2. how does this compare with HP 8620?
3. Can it use (or what are the disadvantages) of using compatibles/remanufactured inks?
4. do the inks easily dried up if not printing often enough? if it does dried up, easily fix?
many thanks

1. Yes it does auto 2 sided scanning and printing, which is a really nice feature
2. It's very similar but has 30,000 print cycles vs 15,000 and a better scanner, so I deduced it's a more robust model. If you google you'll find some side by side comparisons
3. Any printer can use non OEM cartridges but at your risk, probably invalidates warranty as well.
4. Never had this problem but wouldn't leave any printer sitting there for too long without printing.

If you click on the terms and conditions link it shows the 276dw offer, 3 yrs next day replacement, can confirm this works as I've bought one and claimed the £80 cashback and 3 yr warranty. Just buy it, I've no regrets and for this price and warranty it's a no brainer.

I have bought this and this really bugs me:
I need to scan big items and therefore I NEED to do it open lid. Set on PC - using flatbed scanner. Once the lid stands upright, if I push the lid (near the hinge on the right), the autofeeder light lits up and the 'scanner light' moves to the far left (prepare for the paper from the autofeeder). Although press on PC to scan, the 'scanner light' will move back to scan, it will move back to the far left once done. This is extremely annoying, time wasting and extra noisy.
Could some one try to confirm mine is faulty? Thanks a lot.

Hi, I tried this tonight setting scan for glass.
the scan bar drives to the right then scans left and returns to right. touching, pushing in right corner or anywhere has no effect. I assume the doc handler is empty when you raise the lid. I was thinking that you were possibly activating a sensor fooling the printer but don't think this is the case. The only other effect may be from stray or bright lights on the scan bed which you may cast a shadow when reaching over again fooling the sensors, can be worse with fluorescents or CFL lamps. I commenting as worked at Xerox for many years as design engineer. You can try calling HP as I understand there phone help is very good, esp if you have the extended warranty. Hope it gets sorted, Paul
Thanks Mister-t for your help, especially from someone with expert knowledge like yourself.
1. Yes, the ADF tray is empty
2. Would it still be a faulty if there was leak of the light (you meant the light fro the scan bar right?)?
3. When the lid is standing vertical, it is opened towards a wall, should not be any shadow at all
4. I tried with different printer positions, ADF still gets activated.
5. HP - LOL. I called, they claimed that that is a 'design feature' - even the team supervisor confirmed that, nothing that can do - what a joke!
Anyway, do you think my machine is faulty and should ask for a replacement?
I meant ambient light from the room, the sensors are light sources and look for reflections from the paper but can be fooled by certain lighting conditions especially with the lid up. I'd be surprised though as the sensors generally used are ambient light suppressed. One other thought is that the wiring from the doc handler is faulty, I'm guessing it must run from the doc handler into the base printer somewhere along that hinged edge, maybe on the right, so pushing there may disturb the cable making it think the doc handler paper present sensor has become active. I would suggest sending back as does look like a problem. I've tried shining light and pressing all around and neither has any affect on my printer. Cheers Paul
Thanks a lot, mister-t. Although I do use fluorescent light in the room, it is unlikely that the lid could get much light (facing the wall when opened). I will call for a replacement tomorrow. Many thanks Paul. Have a good weekend.
