After seeing this laptop here: hotukdeals.com/dea…078 I decided to do some research. Found this on the John Lewis Website. It looks to be the same spec (but different model number and no SSD) and offers the Free Xbox Elite controller, but is more than £100 cheaper.

Basic Specs:

CPU: Quad-Core Intel Core i5-7300HQ
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 (2GB)
RAM: 8GB
HDD: 1TB
Screen: Full HD (1920*1080)

These days I wouldn't pay over £700 for a laptop without an SSD - sorry.

This is actually pretty good, but it isn't the same as my laptop.

Having said that, you're only losing the 128gb SSD for over £100 less, and you can still get a free elite controller.

An SSD is always nice to have but from what I've read, it doesn't do a great deal to improve gaming. So hot from me.

It definitely improves gaming experience. Load times are so much faster. I agree using an SSD for gaming is a luxury especially as games are around 40GB+ each. I think its worth it.
Steam has a really easy feature to let you move install from one drive to the other easily so I can move games from my HDD to SSD when I actively am playing them.

An SSD for the OS is a must.

For gaming as mojo5110 said it is a luxury and far from necessary.

Better than a £2500 MacBook

Can this have a separate SSD installed, thinking of selling the xbox controller and buying a SSD to install the OS on?

With the savings you could just fit a SSD into the extra 2.5" slot.
However if the other mentioned deal has a M.2 SSD that would be a better option in my opinion as it has SSD and HD.

and voiding your warranty at the same time. I was going to do something with a recent msi purchase but lucky I didn't as it had hdd failure within 2 months and the warranty label was on the screw directly above the hdd

Why would I want to spend £700 on a laptop and then start taking it to bits?

Just weighing up the options and comparing to the other deal. For some it's a simple task to put a hdd/ssd into a laptop. I understand some people may lack the skills/confidence to do so. Hence the other deal with both hdd and ssd being a more desirable offer should you need both, if you don't this would be a better option.

Did anyone buy this. Does a silver version of the Omen 15 actually exist?

Also noticed the standard colour version is £699.95 now which I'm tempted to go for. Not 100% sure it's suitable for Adobe Illustrator which is what I'm mainly using it for.

Also would want to install ssd but I assume that would void the warranty!!!!!!!!!!!1111
