I have this laptop (less mem and hard drive but the innards are the same).

Excellent "cheap" gaming laptop - cooling is WOEFUL though, you will need a cooling pad and/or the use of Intel Extreme Tuning Utility to lower the vcore - I have mine set at -0.120v and it keeps it under 90c at full load - otherwise you will hit 100c easy when gaming and it WILL throttle.

You get what you pay for but I knew this and am well happy - something similar by one of the "big" gaming names would set you back over £2k!

edit: in fact the one I have has the i7-7700HQ, it's the revision up from this- can be had for £1449 from Very, less any discounts you can muster...

    Very good specs.
Nice but I'd suggest an extra £100 for the newer model would take your money a lot further:

or this one - £1500 HP Omen 17
Can I ask why people buy this rather than a gaming desktop? This weighs well over 3kgs, so it's not that easy to carry around, and laptops tend to overheat plus are harder to upgrade. So, what's the advantage?

I would buy this because it is still somewhat portable - I can use it in my bedroom or my kitchen table and it's really easy to put away into a cupboard. Also, I don't have space for a desk where I can put a monitor, desktop, keyboard and mouse. If I want to game on my bed, I have to worry about my monitor slipping on my mattress or having to set up a permanent gaming rig on my kitchen counter. I have a mouse I use for gaming, and in any other scenario I just use the track pad. And I can take my laptop with me on long trips and game. In any case, the laptop isn't that heavy, there are some really nice things and light ones that you can buy if you want more portability. There are many benefits to why a person might get a gaming laptop.
