This is a fantastic deal btw - Amazon stock this model at £1059 - if you were to build your own it would come in at just under £1k....

I ran through PC part picker, picked all the cheapest equivalent items except for the case, where I chose a full tower.

The total price came to £953.67 - But lets just call it £200 more expensive to build your own... see the image below

This OMEN is pretty much the cheapest GTX1070 system you will be able to find at the moment, and there are plenty reviews on youtube with the build quality just copy and paste this : HP Omen 870-270na Core i5-7400 to see

You also get warranties, plus if you make the purchase on credit card as it is not a bespoke system - it is a prebuilt - it will be covered by the consumer credit regulations meaning, if you get a fault of any sort you can just contact your credit card company rather than mess around with the seller....

If i needed one, this would be a no brainer.

Great specs for the price but no doubt people will comment about the i5 throttling the GPU.

I got a HP Omen with the same specs as this except with a 1060 from Argos for £680 back in September. Although it was a worry for me at first I’m yet to find a game that I have issues with throttling (or graphics too, which is great considering it’s only a 1060!). The only game I think might have had throttling issues was Wildlands, but to be honest that game’s performance is terrible regardless.
I’m after a desktop for photo editing. If I removed the graphics card from this Would it still be up to the task. If I sold the graphics card it which go for £300+ it would bring the price down to about £450.

Im after a photo editing capable desktop sub £500. I actually have about £550 store credit fir Currys but don’t see anything suitable on their website.

I was considering using a pc building website (like SCAN) and putting it together myself and buying the windows 10 licence separate. What is best?

You could build yourself a PC for that budget around a Ryzen 2400G which has decent integrated graphics. More than enough grunt for Photo editing. Plus you can squeeze that into a tiny form factor case, if you so wish, as it's integrated graphics, so no separate graphics card. Building your own is easy.

I would want to put an extra pair of mirrored hard drives in the case so might need a full size case anyway?

AFAIK photo editing is more CPU & Ram dependant, rather than GPU, so you should be fine. An extra 8gb of ram would be a good investment.

A colour accurate screen with a wide gamut is essential though.

do you all agree with the below?

for most game needs this should be enough and be a fast enough PC for other bits?
Only GPU better is 1080 and 1080ti is that right?

easily fast enough and yes on the nividia side there's only the 1070ti 1080 and 1080ti that better than a 1070 at this moment

I have the i7 version with 1060, the machine is fine but motherboard has no extra pci or memory connectors. If you never upgrade a machine then its fine. if your into adding the exra mem , card etc then better check available connectors.

Or simply remove what's there and replace it with faster and larger components!
You can still upgrade just not add to what is already there

It won't though. It's a decent 4-core 3GHz i5 chip with 3.5GHz turbo.
All i7 would give you over that is hyper-threading, which only gives a few percent performance benefit and isn't worth the extra money.

Being an OEM 1070 will make it one of the less desirable cards on the used market.

Tbh this doesn't seem all that amazing of a deal; laptops direct have had the same CPU+ram+HDD+1060 6GB for as low as £580.
Upgrading a 1060 to a 1070, and throwing in £20's worth of SSD doesn't seem like it's worth ~£170 extra.

On a related note, has anyone noticed the increased volume of GPU sales on eBay?
Has the market finally peaked?!
Am I missing something or isn't this the same computer? Priced at £595

Clues in the names of the two... the one you linked has an older CPU and graphics that would manage PAC-MAN on medium. This one is much better value

I am not that versed in video production, but yes you can upgrade the ram. If the specification tells you, I would check what motherboard is in it.

I actually have the 260na but I cannot see where the difference is, and the motherboard is probably the only downside

What apps would folk recommend for video editing on pc , looking to edit for YouTube etc.
Does anyone know how many PCI slots this has (for soundcards, wifi etc)?
I like how the very first thing it mentions under "Featuring" is "USB 2.0 Connector", a technology released 18 years ago!

Edit: Tempted to buy this for my dad and swap out the graphics card as his PC is over 8 years old and getting pretty slow. 1TB should be fine for him and his current PC has no SSD, 4GB RAM so starting to show its age. That's the only way I can justify to myself forking out for a new graphics card to replace a RX480 8GB!
