I've been eyeing up a surface Pro, specs of this look much better for the price. Thoughts anyone? Or should I hold out for a 8gb/256gb surface
If this had an MX150 Nvidia card I’d have been all over this
Heat from me
I have been looking since before Black Friday for something of this ilk for my daughters xmas present
I held out until 18th dec hoping something would come along - alas it never did - so I ended up getting a Lenovo 710 from Costco for 680
the best HP could do on Black Friday was the pavilion with an i5 which was 679
so for an 8th gen i7 - great deal

Could you please share with us any better options for same specifications? I appreciate it.
Is this full HD?

HP site says the RRP is £700, where do currys get £899 RRP from. Nice specs though
They said the lower specced chip i5 was down from 849 on Black Friday
perhaps you have unearthed truth on srp and blatant profiteering lol

Unlucky!
Looks like a good deal to me 8th gen I7 which is quad core, full HD screen, SSD, has HDMI, Ethernet and seems reasonably lightweight at 1.53kg. I was looking at the ZenBook UX410 from John Lewis for 649 but it’s only avail in Rose Gold so I wasn’t keen. For the extra 50 quid this has better specs. Not keen on HP or Currys/PC World but I might take a punt on this.
Voting hot. Nice one.
Does this get hot(when not playing game)? So many threads on HP laptops getting hot unnecessarily or fan constantly working.
This or lenovo without graphics card?

Heat from me. Found this myself yesterday before seeing it on here and just purchased now. Currys doing 10% TCB until Monday too so should get it for around £630. Not a computer expert by any means but been on the lookout for a new laptop the past couple of months and done a lot of research and comparing and the specs on this seem to be head and shoulders above what you can get elsewhere for the same price.
Got this laptop but find it very noisy, fan is always spinning up. Wondering if it may be possible to return as a fault.
HEAVY DUTY Spec!! - Nice machine

Here is something also that's good VFM:

I have a HP G6 Pavilion. Few years old now but the fans do make a right noise on my model. Spin up, spin down in a constant cycle, even at idle. It’s frustrating and having done loads of research it’s a common theme. Don’t know if it’s any better now in HP laptops?

I found a way to make it better - there's a setting in the bios that was set to keep the fan on all the time. I've disabled it so now the fan only spins up when needed. Don't know why that wasn't the default setting!
Does anyone know if the the intel security flaws have anything to do with the price drops? Estimations range from 0% to 30% drop in performance on intel chips. Or is it just exaggeration.

From what I've read, the performance hit is dependent on individual applications and not a uniform drop across the board.

Would you be able to let us know whether this has a backlit keyboard please?

Edit: It's ok, I've answered my own question. It does indeed have a backlit keyboard.

I was looking at that Zenbook too. With the cashback from TCB there'll only be £10 difference, so this seems the much better deal.
can I put a hard drive in this looking at the service manual it has space for one and keep the ssd

If you need a laptop to be more of a work horse 🐴 I suggest the HP. It is a good spec and the bezel is not an eye sore.
