Will this play battlefront?
I was just about to buy the lenovo one posted earlier....
Lenovo Laptop

I would rather have this one tbh as they are the same price, but don't really know much about specs etc.......... are they pretty similar?

Thanks
I guess even if your not the biggest fan of star wars, that decal could hide any odd scratches you pick up over time.
looks decent, however.. hp are not renowned for their good screens.
Was just looking at this, only 6GB ram thou. Not really up to date on specs

Sorry, I'm no expert. I just like the way it looked 8). The Lenovo you mentioned has an i7 whereas this one is an i5. So the Lenovo is probably more powerful.
The difference between this (newer) i5 and the i7 in the Lenovo one should be pretty negligible, as they're both dual core, low energy models. The graphics chip in this, however, is much better. If you're planning on using it for gaming at all, this one is definitely the better deal despite having less RAM.

Also remember you have to add 5% if you're not a Costco member

It's a marginally better CPU in the Lenovo, won't be noticeable, this one has a fair bit better GPU though, so all in all, I'd say this is a better deal.

You should be able to add more ram.
Again was just looking at this in the news letter. Current gen I5 processor (I know thats not great in all cases). With Geforce 840m GPU, it could make it a nice low-mid range gaming laptop which at around about the £500 price point to me is good bang for buck. Oh and the Star Wars livery makes it look real nice.

I bought one, receipt shows a Geforce 940m......... guessing that's better than 840m? I'm not up on gpu's I'm just checking that i receive what i ordered.
Nice. Very nice
Guys which would you suggest?
I posted a deal Lenovo U31
That would be costing me £25 more than this laptop( £525 No Costco Membership). Specs look similar, deal i posted has SSD and an 17 but when comparing they look similar performance wise.
Want to get the best processor possible and light gaming. This one here is a little heavier but its 15" compared to 13".
Even as a big SW fan I wouldn't want to buy a laptop that looks scratched to hell when it's brand new.

Yes, should be happy on medium or lower settings

That design is awful. "Hey let's take the most iconic villain in Star Wars.....and mostly obscure him".
1 x 2Gb and 1 x 4Gb RAM..........okay...
Just bought this myself , only arrived today so not had time to use it.
I paid £429 when HP deal was on at very with 20% off
Looks good though , far better than picture on here .

My Lenovo X220 has 1 x 2Gb and 1x 4Gb, works fine You can get another 4gb stick quite cheaply if you want 8Gb, or push the boat out and get 16Gb

I'm just trying to get my head around the person at HP who thought "1 stick of 2 and 1 of 4....yeah that sounds about right!" and didn't get laughed out the office. Or at least looked at funny.

Same bright spark at Lenovo, they figure a £2 saving or less on each laptop adds up LOL

or maybe they have shi* loads of 2gb sticks which noone wan't to have anymore. Getting rid of unusable stock?

The 940m has significantly better performance. I'd take that unless the smaller form factor is crucial.

They're actually very similar in performance. The i7 is a couple of generations older and this i5 seems to be one of the new Skylake processors released this year with better integrated graphics too.

It's close enough not to feel ripped off imho. It's comparable performance but not faster, actually the 940M is slightly slower according to benchmarks (3DMark11). In the second chart down you can see 940M scores 2360, this is very slightly behind the 840M which scores 2410. futuremark.com/har…iew

As for this laptop, it is only dual core, with low end graphics, a slower 5400rpm hard disk drive and only 6GB of RAM etc. so I think there are much better gaming laptops for this money. It'd be fine for browsing or less demanding games, but for me, and with gaming in mind, I'd personally go for an AMD quad-core APU with better graphics, a faster hard disk drive (7200rpm is much better) and more RAM (at least 8GB) for similar money.
rather a self configured laptop from pc specialist...much better value

Will this play battlefront?

yes but only on low-mid setting if your lucky maybe 30fps
May the force be with u ..... lol. :-)
Received mine this morning, there's no door underneath to upgrade RAM so seems you're stuck with 6GB (which is fine for me anyway), but I also can't see where the HDD access is either which I've seen other people have upgraded to an SSD. I'll play around with it more later but overall a solid laptop and the design looks much better in person than in the pictures.
Received mine via a voucher for £420 and I couldn't be happier. I just needed the laptop for taking to uni with me, so would only be used for documents, browsing, music and light gaming and it works perfectly.

Cpu: Latest Skylake version from Intel, works just as good as previous i7 models.
Gpu: Nvidia 940m, you can play older games in 1080p with 60~ fps (I only use this laptop to play Hearthstone and Diablo III and they both work perfect at 60fps)
Ram: No need for more than 6gb, it's not a laptop for gaming/rendering. I believe this is upgradable as the manual states that the laptop supports up to 16gb (2x8gb) of DDR3 or 4, it's currently about £70 for 2x8gb of DDR4 memory for a laptop.
Screen: Beautiful and bright at 1080p, nothing else to say here.
Sound: Quite loud and decent quality, better than normal onboard solutions.
Keyboard: Harder to type on than a normal keyboard but looks gorgeous with the red lit keys.

All in all, it's not a gaming laptop but it's not a basic laptop either, it's perfect for basic tasks such as browsing, documents, music, etc but can play the latest games on lowest settings or old games on the highest settings too.

edit; If you're not a Star Wars fan (I can't stand it personally), don't worry! You can download Windows 10 Home from Microsoft and install it. It'll automatically use your serial key and you'll have a non branded OS, as far as I know, there is a recovery drive if you want to have the default software back on.

I personally love the design of the laptop as black/red is my favourite combination! Hardware wise, it's the best you'll get up until a £600+ price point.
