IPS Touchscreen with mediocre specs at not a bad price
I believe there is also another RAM slot

Not even as good as a 2500u (Which I have and have been disappointed by since day one. £400 for this is an absolute criminality.

Wouldn't pay £400 for a Ryzen 3 3300U especially when I posted a deal about 2 weeks ago which had Ryzen 3 4300U, 4GB RAM, 128SSD (Expandable) for £389.99

I don't think this is so terrible given the fact is a touchscreen. Yes, it's only 4GB RAM (I think is upgradeable), but some people will appreciate the touchscreen. The CPU is not that terrible. I would say this would have been a good deal at around £350, but this is not bad.
On almost every laptop deal, people pick on 3000 series, (which is an OK CPU). There are other specs some may be interested. In this case, the touchscreen. In other cases the portability, weight, built quality, screen size, etc. A laptop is not only a CPU, can't understand why people vote cold if no 4000 series...

Yes. Better CPU, better battery, not as heavy, but half the storage. Unless you upgrade the RAM on this one, didn't look if the other one is upgradeable.

Only 4GB of ram, not enough
Given the bonkers laptop pricing that this year has bought us , I have to say that for this spec, this is a swindletastic deal.

Like many have pointed, its also a touch screen and the ram can be doubled up

Would love this to be cheaper....If anyone can point me to one with at least 8gb ram, new and no more expensive then I'd be very happy...

Stupid refurbed dell latitude 7350 2 in 1 just died after a few weeks of use!!! ....in dire need for a reliable replacement
Not bad

Quad core with passmark 5886, IPS touchscreen and metal finish, not the usual cheap plastic like you get in this price range. What's not to like?

Definitely add another 4GB to give that. Ryzen APU a boost.

On the Dell Outlet site there is a Dell 3585 for £384.

CPU - AMD Ryzen 5
Memory - 8GB
Hard Drive - 256GB NVMe SSD
Screen - 15.6" 1920x1080

Or there is also a Dell 3583 at £384

CPU - Intel i3 8145U (8th generation Intel)
Memory - 8GB
Hard Drive - 256GB NVMe SSD
Screen - 15.6" 1920x1080

I wont post a direct link to them as they can sell out quite quickly on Dell outlet. However new laptops are added to the site all the time.

I have ordered a few PCs and laptops from Dell Outlet and never had a problem with them, though they can take a week or so to get here from where they are stored.
These days, it's a real struggle to find a decent laptop for under £500. With people wanting (rightly!) to work from home, global demand for laptops had gone through the roof & prices have risen accordingly.

Although it's not without its flaws, I reckon the Dell Inspiron 5000 (5505) currently gives you the best bang for your buck. For £527 (with code), you get a pokey 4500U, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD & a 15.6" IPS screen (Dell's specs say 220 nits but I read a review which put it higher at 246 nits).

The Dell is technically bettered by the £527 Xiaomi Redmibook 16 which gives you a 300 nit, 100% sRGB screen & a 512GB SSD. If only you didn't have to import it from China, I'd be all over it!

Think this is a crappy TN screen. The IdeaPads get some rave reviews on YouTube but in the US, they come with excellent IPS screens. Here, they all get shipped with 250 nit TN screens with no option to upgrade. Such a shame as I'm loving my new Legion which has a superb screen.
I love 4gb of ram

According to Currys description, it is IPS.
I'll see what its like when it arrives

I never buy used or refurbed.....and when I finally do the device dies....

I for one am happy with this spec and feature set. I couldn't find anything the same or as close for less money that was new and from a reputable supplier.

On paper, the wee one will be more then happy with this

Will you be adding another stick of RAM, could you come back and tell us if the RAM is soldered.
I think potentially you can get this up to 2x8 GB.

You're correct & I'm wrong. The 14" IdeaPads are indeed WVA (near enough IPS) but the 15.6" ones are all TN.
I got quite excited until I realised you can't add more RAM so you're stuck with 4GB forever!

Will do Saw a YouTube review on the bumped up model of this laptop, which showed the chap just unplugging the ram, which would signify its not soldered....
out of stock everywhere
does anyone have a spare one ? I'll be happy to pay for P&P.
bough this earlier on in the year. it does have a decent ips pannel. it comes with 4gig of ram but i added another stick of 4gig to give it a little boost. the ram is not soldered and it is upgradable to 16gig if you wish. it has ok bang and olafson software to tweek audio and radion software for adjusting picture settings. decent colours on this too. if you want to install kodi on it it does struggle with 4gig so add another 4gig stick like i did and you'll have no trouble. touch screen is a nice feature. all in all a decent middle of the road laptop
