But for the £20 that a 128gb ssd would cost HP, why not put one in a laptop of this spec?

This is back in stock at AO.com. I’m no computer expert so some advice wouldn’t go a miss if people don’t mind.

If your a gamer, you'd be better paying a touch more for something with a GTX 1060 as GPU is king. I paid £709 earlier this year for an ASUS FX503 from AO, earlier this year. If on the other hand, your after something for Video/Photo editing or CAD, the screen quality of cheap gaming machines can be an issue. 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD is also a sweet spot.

Not particularly for gaming, it’s for my 12 year old who’s will be playing some games like fortnite, minecraft etc, but I want a good all rounder that will last her a few years.

I'd say this will do a great job for what you are suggesting. Maybe worth popping into a Curry's to have a look at the screen quality though. Colour/Contrast on my FX503 is appalling and therefore not a good all rounder.
If I could get this for £578 and had a spare 256gb SSD, what would the community's verdict be? I play Europa Universalis IV and similar but detest loud cooling solutions.

Don't pay that price for it, it regularly gets reduced by £50 via AO's own voucher codes. Also, I think it's the same as this Argos one (except for the colour) argos.co.uk/pro…642 which is currently £569.99

This is a better all rounder, and for gaming with a dedicated graphics card. The screen on this is an IPS and this model is higher grade than the AO's HP.
Which has a horrible washed out SVA (TN) display and cheaper build quality.

Agree, this deserves more heat.
The price is not bad with these specs and it looks kinda premium and upmarket. Just look those F117 style cooling vents!! I wonder if it has an aluminium shell?

I wasn't referring to the original post. I was referring to the laptop on AO that the person I was responding to included a link to.

No. You need a docking station.
That’s a shame. With it having a graphics card, I’m surprised it can only handle 1.
what sort of docking station should I be looking at for this laptop please?

Any thoughts on this, from those who know these things better than I?
Is this any good for someone studying graphic design and who uses photoshop often? My niece is looking for one for her course. Been reading that she may need a decent screen with good adobe rgb but it is all foreign to me.

I can't say for certain for this laptop, but I think it should be possible as it has HDMI and displayport. On a Lenovo laptop I've used both simultaneously to dual screen on separate monitors, so I don't see why an HP would be any different. (I've also used VGA and HDMI simultaneously on a Samsung laptop to dual screen.)
Viewed in Currys and good solid laptop.. Was not impressed with the Matt screen..
But others may find it fine.
