Would this laptop cope with minecraft? I'm looking for a laptop for my son, mainly for school work but he likes minecraft too so that would be the only real game that gets played on his laptop as he has a tablet for apps. Any help appreciated

Yes my son is too a lad, that would like to play minecraft, any advice appreciated

Anything better for this price?

Bought for wife, feels sturdy and seems to work well. Full numlock keypad which is a plus for many and the trackpad has a textured feeling which provides some haptic feedback which is nice. Quiet and copes fine with simple tasks but still installing updates!

I would spend a little more and get a i5 processor. Nonetheless a good deal for a basic laptop.

Id never buy a HP ever again. ..spent £500 on one only for it to pack up after 13 months a be beyond economical repair with no warranty.

Guy in my local repair shop said he'd seen lots like that and advised against HP.

Hot although I bought an i5 ( Samsung ) about 6 months ago that had the same specs and was cheaper. ( via hotdeals )

U would be looking at £400+ for i5 realistically

Can you really make such sweeping statements? You do realise some i3s are faster than i5s?
You have to be very precise about which generation and models and clock you are comparing.

i5 Haswell (For those of you who don't know, the one above is a 3rd gen, Haswell is 4th) for £24 more.

but for some unknown reason, it's -53 when this one has gone hot.

Absolutely no idea why...........

Yeah that is weird. And the Amazon reviews making it look 3/5 are from AMD models and different CPUs, as there is a selection button. (Annoying they do that for the reviews)
HOTUK can be odd sometimes

It mught be the fact that the Amazon i5 processor is slower than this i3?

At first glance you might think the i5 is slower because it says it's "1.6GHz" but that is just the base speed, it increases up to 2.6GHz when required. Benchmarks show the i5 performs a bit better than the i3: cpuboss.com/cpu…10M and uses half the power. So in theory should produce less heat and longer battery power. I'm considering the i5 as that is pretty much bang on my budget and i want somethng before christmas!

If only speed were everything.

If you check out CPUbenchmarks, you'll see that the i3 is 3075 vs i5 3359
So I guess not a lot in it, EXCEPT, that the Haswell is very low power usage.

Hi guys. Thanks for all the comments. I went for the I5 in the end. x3. For three teenage kids the proof will be in the pudding. Is it straightforward to upgrade windows 8 to 8.1 ??

Once you log on, it'll push you to upgrade, so yes.

A meant a realistic processor too! My 2nd gen i3 has much more power than this! (2.1ghz)
Its very miss leading nowadays with M and U processers

There's an Acer Aspire E1-572 15.6" in PC World for 476.99 which is i7

The deal lasts until monday

15% off everything at HP Store now, worth checking out!

Cyber Monday deal.

Code looks live now 15OFFHP

HP Pavilion TouchSmart 15-n022sa for £509 after 15% discount.
8gb ram, 1 TB HDD, i5 heswall, touch screen, integrated graphics

Looks a decent price to me? Any advice?

The equivalent Dell , an Inspiron R without the touch screen is £500.

Like both the i3 + i5 as not much in the CPU speed but have different integrated gpu's. Minecraft sucks on HD3000 (most i3's) whereas it is bearable on HD4000/4400 (i5's) recommend dedicated gpu's if you can afford for 'playable' Minecraft.

This is showing at £369 now.

So in other words, you can't get an i5 for this price.
