Same deal here (although PCWorld, but same as Currys): hotukdeals.com/dea…764

Been looking at this for past hour, can't find any reviews, there's no info anywhere on it, is it a model number just for currys as they have another very very similar, same price and has always been £400...

I need a new laptop and I'm tempted by this...

Any advice greatly received

So probably no need for seperate posts for a chain which is effectively the same with two different signs above the door but the same prices more often than not

They seem to have several Variants of these with different internals.

Other than the Low screen resolution (Seriously why do smartphones/tablets have better screen resolutions than most laptops?) and the crappy 10/100 NIC it doesn't seem a bad spec.

Fairly decent CPU, decent amount of RAM and a surprisingly good integrated GPU, The Iris seems to score between an Nvidia 820M and an 840M in passmark.

I am looking for this laptop too but this one looks better with the same price

Hi Thanks
But I am unsure if that outperforms 1 yr extra guarantee of JL(worth 100 GBP)?

The specs for these machines appear identical, are there any differences I have overlooked?

They do appear very similar, only noticeable difference in spec is the slightly better processor in the PC World/Currys model but you weigh that up against the £20 less JL model but you do get the 2 year warranty at JL - I am mulling over this choice myself as it seems to me to be one of the best Laptops out there at this moment in time around the £400 budget.

Hi Rob
i5 4288U is not a slightly better processor...see the notebookcheck.net review at notebookcheck.net/AMD…tml
According to this site the A10 5750M is similar in performance with a 2nd generation i3.
I agree though that the extra guarantee in JL is not to be overlooked. If you do not need the extra processor performance I would suggest the JL

HP Pavilion Notebooks 15-p151sa, 15-p156sa, 15-p157sa, 15-p189sa, 15-p196sa, 15-p199sa ...Same machines, Same spec, for some reason known only to HP they have decided to give each colour a different model no. I just bought the Silver model (HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p151sa} All I can say is ....WOW....no really, I mean ...WOW.

Indeed it was a close competition (JL or currys) but I decided to go with JL.

Another laptop I'm tempted to consider. Had a look at this in PC World today and it could do the job. Have £135 worth of vouchers that I could use towards the laptop, and could replace the HDD with an SDD to make it even better.

Bought a white one in PC World yesterday. Usual loads of HP bloatware but all in all a pretty decent machine for browsing, Word, Excel etc. Haven't tried it for games. Keys feel a little lightweight but the actual key pad into which they're set is very solid and doesn't flex (an important test for me). The mouse pad is a bit sensitive out of the box and it's an all in one thing with no separate buttons but there are easy custom settings available with little videos to help you and I've just about got it to my liking. All in all not bad at all for £399 and I think I'm fussy. A higher res screen would be great but that's another £100 or so and a dent in the battery life.

Got one myself. The screen possibly the only point to comment on but for those who require full HD screen, look at the HP website. A similar laptop (ENVY series) with 499. Nevertheless, the ENVY has a i5 4210U which is an inferior processor compared to the 4288U

Just how bad is the screen?

Hi
No specific problems, I would say a good HD screen. But if you are planning to sit in front of it for many gaming hours then you should consider a full HD.
Overall, a well priced laptop

Ah i see, thanks. I'm not a gamer, but i do edit photos. I have my desktop for professional stuff though, this will just be for personal work and internet.
I suppose I should go and see if theyve got one in store...
