Very decent processor in this HP model: the Intel® Core™ i5-4288U Processor (2.6 GHz, 3.1 GHz with TurboBoost, 3 MB cache). It's right up there with some of the 5th gen i7's in benchmark tests. See here (currently 99th in the mobile CPU benchmark list):

Would have snapped it up for £100 more if it had a 1080p screen. Are the graphics integrated on this laptop? It doesn't really specify the graphics in the description.

This model was £399.99 a month ago, so price went down even more.

Yes integrated, but a little better then average: Intel® Iris™ Graphics 5100

I know what you mean on the screen, its is not great.

The integrated Iris Graphics 5100 offers 40 Execution Units (EUs) clocked at 200 - 1200 MHz with Turbo Boost, making it significantly faster than the HD Graphics 4000. As a result, the Iris Graphics competes with dedicated lower mid-range graphics cards.

Will this be any good for video editing? I'm using Sony Vegas Pro on an old laptop, which takes for ever when rendering a video.

Thanks

CPU is decent enough, it was one of the optional upgrades in the Late 2013 Macbook Pro 13".

Problem would be the screen, poor viewing angles and the resolution will be too low to work with video.

But if your existing laptop is as bad as 1366 x 768 or if you work with an external screen it will be fine.

I bought this over the weekend using o2 priority. Decent laptop but I don't rate the screen that much. I've previously had Sony HD screens so this is a big step down. But for the money at £375 where can you get an i5 with 1.5TB hard drive. So bargain laptop.

Thanks for that, my current laptop is an old Toshiba Celeron Dual Core 2.41GHZ, 3GB Ram pile of pooh. The screen is knackard, currently hooked up to a 23" HD Dell monitor that I got via here years ago.

I'm also looking for a decent laptop around £500 to work on video and photos. A good battery life would be a bonus as well.

Anybody got any suggestions?

Hi, apologies for being clueless but could anyone tell me if this is a decent 'general' laptop? I've got an old hefty Dell laptop which other than some overheating issues has seen me right for about 8 years, however it's hard drive is literally completely full of pictures and videos and isnt far from giving up, my partner is pestering for a new one as he downloads a LOT of music and can't be bothered using our external HD to do so, so I said I'd keep an eye out for a good deal to justify 'possibly' buying a new family laptop. As we haven't got much money at the moment, it would have to be a mega hot deal to find the justification! We only use it for streaming (mainly football, kids films etc) watching YouTube, downloading music, my kids play school games over the internet & we save many photos & videos... Also need MS Office for bits of work related tasks. We don't want a touch screen, and would prefer something large & powerful than small and transportable. Thanks!

If you can justify spending the money, this will do all you need and more.

Pros: Good Price (especially with the O2 discount), Good Processor, Large HDD, Decent Build Quality, Decent Amount of RAM, Decent Integrated Graphics

Cons: Screen only HD, not Full HD. No Office suite pre-installed.

However, I wouldn't describe this as a MEGA deal, but it is a GOOD deal.

Voted cold. Not sure why do I need to spend £399 on a laptop.

I can get a brand new laptop which does the same thing under £200.
For example this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toshiba-C50-B-13T-Celeron-15-6-Inch-4GB-750GB-Laptop-/161468059764?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3

Ask computer techs, you do not need latest hardware, screens, 1.5TB, i5 or i7, etc.
I have Intel core 2 laptop and it handles all the tasks, games, etc. Software development is slower than hardware.

Kind of a BROAD question to ask, but if you look here, the GPU frame rates for specific games are shown further down the page.

Ah! The good old why buy a Ferrari when a Dacia Duster gets you from A to B adequately well argument.

No Full HD - no way.

Otherwise it looks quite nice, especially with the choice of colours.

1366 x 768 = Don't bother.

If you like waiting for the lights to go green, if you like queueing in Lidls, if you like waiting for an income tax rebate, buy a Laptop with a Celeron.

Problem with HPs is the tonne of bundled bloatware which all want to startup from boot... uninstalling it all takes 2 hours of my time.... time i could be spent actually using it.

6 months ago i bought this for £264

Standard price for this so not really a deal but decent laptop anyway. Agree screen isn't all that having used one

You could always consider replacing/adding an SSD to it, if you're struggling for cash? Depends how old the laptop is, SSD might not make a massive difference if it's 8 years old. It might well just be worth an upgrade to a completely new laptop.

I am pretty sure I saw this instore just over a week ago and the price was £399. They have just reduced it by 3p?:| Some time ago someone had said that if Currys tweak their prices to end in a 7, the stock is being discontinued. Can someone confirm that please.

Nice spec for the price, and HP is doing extremely well at the moment, I've got an 11" HP x360 and its wonderfully built. Hot.

Exactly the same. Just Purple.

The original offer posts mentions the model numbers for the alternative colours.

They might still have stock instores of the blue or white. Then you can see how bad the screen is before purchasing.

Weird- not available for home delivery and only in a couple of stores nationwide when I look?!

The screen resolution is fine really and it means that any games will be able to run at native res at much higher details so is a good trade off.
The thing that makes this a no buy for me is the 10/100 LAN it should really have gigabit, my internet is faster than 100mbit.

What's it like to swap a HDD in these? couldn't find the specific model on YouTube but other Pavilion models you had to take it to complete pieces. Also I saw it said 2 x 750gb drives, but I couldn't see a 2nd hdd space on the vid I watched. I like 2 spaces with a cd slot still, so I can change 1 disk for a SSD for speed and keep the larger capacity 2nd drive.

Manual is here:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04427554

I replaced the drive recently.

Not super easy, but no real issues.

Remove sticky feet, remove about 15 screws.
Hardest part is gently snapping the keyboard deck off.
After that there is a few thin ribbon cables.
But the HDD is not screwed in, just popped in a rubber sledge.
