So you guys know. Got this from JL and returned it with some difficulty due to GDPR rules. It is very easy to replace the hard drive with an SSD. However, the reason I returned it was that it was it looked good but it just seemed to miss the mark for everything. Screen not that great, boot times with the mechanical drive and Optane memory very so so. Very plastic so it creeks also the fan is for ever spining up and it is very noticiable. The only thing I could say was the graphics card was good. It seems like an entry gaming maching but I would spend a bit more and get quality.... It was just annoying..... ok moan over with. Ps my 7 year old mac pro kicked it's ass (apart from the graphics obvs) ....... Just my 4p worth.

No SSD ...

It has a GTX 1050 for under 500 quid it's still a bargain and SSD's are cheap these days.

specification seems nice, not bad for this price to use optane + HDD :/

Specs are really good, shame it's got 2GB of VRAM instead of 4GB
"Use code PICKME5 at checkout - £474.99 + £3.95 delivery".

OP .. you should add that code thingy to somewhere on your Deal Title (with the then new price reflected within it - in bracket's, perhaps?).

It's a good price for it though either way. :-)

Ps.
It's a shame it's not a Lenovo, as I've had issue's with HP consumer laptop's (sorry), but I'm ok with either Lenov, or Acer laptop's instead.

Does anyone know of either a Lenovo, of an Acer out there with similar apex's, etc?, thanx.

Is it easy to change H.D?
Before worrying about lack of SSD, has anyone tried a laptop with Optane memory? Supposed to significantly improve performance. Be interested to hear from someone with a laptop using this as articles I read a few months back made this sound very promising.

It does help but you are better off just removing it and replacing it with a cheap SSD from the get go :).

I often hear that the 1050 is poor but my old Omen laptop with a 2gb 1050 happily runs the witcher 3 on high at around 45+ fps with hairworks turned off; on medium it gets 50fs+. I don't think it's as poor as some people think.

It is when its last gen and only 2gb, especially now the 1650 is 4gb and clocked higher. Did you get the asus tuf 505DT? If you did do an fps test now

Fair enough, it's been a couple of years since I bought mine and time marches fast in technology. I didn't get the tuf in the end; I ended up throwing caution to the wind and buying another Omen with a 1660ti. It only turned up today but I'm still at work and haven't had a chance to run a game yet. I'm hoping for some good frame rates. Did you get the tuf?

You wont regret that purchase, my friend has a similar omen with a gtx 1070. Your purchase should run virtually the same, btw it's a great laptop you chose. I have had mine since the end of September and paid £610 for it. I find it good with it's 120hz ips screen. It's a good laptop but the omen you have bought is far better.

Yeah, I was editing mine too! That wasn't a bad price considering you've had three months more fun out of it than everyone else - definitely worth the extra £60!

Nope I did not as i bought it from JL over the counter and when I tried to return in the 35 day return window, I got hit with "you used it and therefore we can't take it back as your personal data is on it" even though i argued it was wiped and setup for a new user. Mobile phone company's seem to sell used phones wihout this issue. Eventually got a refund i a stated this was not told to me at point of sale.. Plus this laptop was already a return so discounted....
So at JL you can take the device home but not use it... Worth checking it out before you buy.

This often seems to be a problem I've found. Specs looks great, until you get it and realise why it's so cheap. A screen being IPS doesnt guarantee it's any good
Bit expensive for standard GTX 1050.
16gb optane is useless. Not big enough for Windows or anything else
