I still read that as it has a Super multi DVD drive. not blu ray.. and that the first part is indicating what type of drive it could have..maybe wrong..not fussed as not buying just didn't want people to think it had blu ray..
So is this a good deal for a laptop then? I will be using it for general browsing and playing videos.

Havent seen anything with this kind of spec under £400 myself.

I dont want another AMD, last one was awful.

Ordered mine at 6pm last night and it got here this morning at 11am!! Lovely jubbly!
Cold.

Apart for the 12GB, Nothing is better than any £300 i5 5th or 6th gen, 8GB, 1TB laptop you see here very often.

4GB RAM extra only worth £15. And at this spec 12GB RAM probably do not give you much extra over 8GB RAM.

HP Pavilion is HP consumer laptop. A lot of people say HP consumer laptops are bad quality.

I personally only used HP business laptops, which are fine.

I have seen and tried some models of HP consumer laptops, which are indeed not good quality, way worse than HP business laptop. Which is why even those i5 consumer laptop at £300, I do not think they are very hot as you can get i5 business laptop for £330 any day.

I have not looked at laptops in here for last two weeks.

Typically, if you do not mind consumer laptops, i5, non-FHD, on-board graphic card is around £300 quite often. Just wait. They come up very frequently. Below are one examples.
hotukdeals.com/dea…073
There were a lot more deals at £300 but with 4GB RAM.

For business laptop, you normally pay £30 more which I highly recommend as Business laptops do use better and more expensive components, better quality and last longer. Below 3 business laptops:

You can add m.2 SSD and keep both SSD and HDD at the same time.
hotukdeals.com/dea…414

You missed the best time, the price increased a lot.

This A6 is weaker than i3, only buy if you know it is good enough for you.

Laptop with i5 at £300 is very often here. Most of time only has 4GB RAM. Sometimes 8GB RAM.

Is 8GB RAM extra make up £71 difference? Clearly not. 8GB RAM is £30 or less on amazon. Not to mention consider the rest sepcs of the laptop, does this laptop really benefit from having 12GB RAM instead of 8GB RAM?

Also, a lot of people may take off some money because of the name, HP as they think HP consumer laptops are generally not good quality.

I think you have missed the best time.

Between Christmas and early Feb, there were many budget consumer laptop deals here. Now in general, less deals and higher price.

Thanks for the reply.
I really do not think this deal should be this hot.

If I say, the same laptop with 4GB RAM at £340

or the same laptop with 8GB RAM at £355

Is it going to be this hot?

Clearly not.

It is a mis-conception. People read 12GB RAM and think it is impressive and must be one of the high end worth a lot of money. And HP has clearly taken advantages of that as upgrading RAM is cheap and easy to impress people. As a result, I think the 12GB RAM in this laptop as the default is unnecessary for most users, it is simply used by HP as a way to charge higher price.

This laptop is over-priced by £50 even at £371.

One deal comes around today. In my opinion it is very good.

It is a very high end premium laptop and so lightweight as a Ultrabook at the same time, so please do not compare price directly to this laptop. It will be a world difference in quality compare to OP's laptop.

Thinkpad X1 Carbon, 14 inch FHD screen, i5-5200u, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, carbon-fiber case, 1.4kg for £560.
amazon.co.uk/gp/…-21

The particular model normally sells quite expensively.

The next cheapest price I can found including ebay is £800 brand new.

Edited by: "huangxq2" 27th Feb 2016
Thinkpad X1 Carbon sold out with in minutes.

12 were gone in minutes.

Some people might bought them and to resell at ebay for a profit.

That is what happens to really good deals. You really have to be quick to get them.

This one is posted today. The A8 performance is on par with i3 U version.
hotukdeals.com/dea…702

It is a refurb, most likely to be customer return. I am not saying this one is going to be perfect. But as a refurb, you can freely try and return if you do not like. That does not hurt. It is worth a try.

I have a friend which I helped her bought a Toshiba i3 8GB 1TB refurb from Argos for £215 18 months ago, she is quite happy with it.

i3 4005u version for £10 more available too if you prefer.
ebay.co.uk/itm…175

You could get the i5 version at £250 too.

If you want login quickly, basic tasks. i3 + 128GB SSD is a good combination for you as boot fast and keep cost down. Maybe an even weaker Celeron or Pentium will also work depends on what your basic tasks are.

The A6 is not strong, weaker than i3, only buy if you know it is enough for you.

It is a business laptop, you will see it has superior quality compare to an normal consumer laptop, and yet the price is in the same range of consumer laptops.

I normally have another i3+SSD business laptop to suggest, but it is sold out this week.

Alternatively, you could buy a cheap i3 as suggested before, then upgrade the hard drive to 128GB SSD yourself. The SSD will make sure you boot and load programs instantly.

Do not buy large size SSD, it does not affect system performance. For large storage use a removeable hard drive is an cheaper option.
