Question: Why does everyone say 'should be enough for the kids' about lower spec computers?

When i use the computer i have a tab or two open on firefox, and work from command line - when the kids are open there are 500 tabs open, all running flash, serving up all kinds of adcrap, proabably mining btc in browser and absolutely rinsing it - thats even before they run Steam.

Kids, in my experience, require a lot more computing power than adults.

I agree and kids normally want to play high end games

Even worse is at a lot of work places, the people who need a powerful PC get a fairly basic one where-as the CEO / MD get a powerful PC and all they do with it is open e-mails and PDFs.
The CPU isn't actually that bad, if it's the gold version. It appears to beat out older i3 (5005/6006) cpus.

As for entry level aimed at kids, I'd argue you're way better off giving young kids a 2nd hand tablet. Loads of people ditch their old ones to upgrade and it should do everything they want.

A proper laptop like this one would be more for people who don't game except for casual stuff and some older games like sims 4, championship manager, rocket league, dota, tf2 cs:go on low settings.
Please bear in mind this: batteryprogram687.ext.hp.com/ Battery recall for a few HP Laptops, including this. So if you buy you may be without machine whilst battery is replaced.
