£399.99 also known as the price its supposed to be
Cold.
Was going to say this is ok but what on earth is an HD display doing on a 14” convertible, let alone one that supposedly retails for £549
its a budget laptop, covers all basics with some bells and whistles...plus touch screen, so not bad for the price as elsewhere its expensive

Troll?
All i3 laptops should be £250 tops these days - Intel cartel keeping the price of these incredibly high IMPO.

I know... that is my complaint. It's standard HD on what is quite a large panel.

This is an i7 tho ( although prior to 8th Gen, on mobile that may not have meant much )

whilst the DPi / Resolution is lacking, would it be at least reasonable for us to speculate that the other attributes ( IPS / Viewing angles / colour gamut etc ) may make up for the resolution at this price point?

It should be 'ok' but it's pretty average at £400 - it's the lowest-end i3 (and previous gen, probably why it's cheap) and a 14" machine is right for a full HD display, if it was 10-11" I could probably allow it in my mind. The casing is also plastic not metal (apart from the lid), which is highly preferable for convertible devices as they are moved a lot. They make a full HD model of this too. Maybe some people would like it, I wouldn't even consider it though.

No, no, I get you, wasn't having a go, was just asking if you had seen any as I'm in the market for something for simple stuff. Thought you might know.

No, none near that price.

I was just making the point that Intel has controlled the CPU market for computers for so long that they have been able to maintain a high premium for CPU's whilst actually giving us very little in performance gain for a good 10 years now.

This is now very obvious when, for the first time in a decade Intel has competiton from AMD, that Intel is suddenly capable of bringing out a new CPU range that is 50% faster than last generation chips.

Look at i3 laptops now - they are reducing the size of the hard disks in them, reducing the size of the RAM, et are still asking for £400 to £600 for i3 laptops. Ludicously expensive.

/rant over.

Was it a 15 or 17 inch? You can often find them for that price either in sales or refurbished deals such as the Dell Outlet. It is when you come down below 15 inch screens that you get a huge spike with prices.

But the manufacturers and retailers are taking the mick now offering i3, 128GB drives and 4GB of memory in laptops but then wanting circa £500 for them.

oh interesting, yeah 15 inch screen and it's only 720p or whatever. But the CPU scored 7700 on passmark so I figured it was good.
