HP Pre 3 8GB Sim Free AZERTY Keyboard - £169.99 @ Palm uk

Seems like the HP Pre 3 can be bought from the Palm Eurostore for £169.99 including delivery. It is the AZERTY keyboard (not that it matters that much on a mobile phone).

It is a good price for a top of the range smartphone but make sure that you treat it as a feature phone due to very few apps being made available for the Pre 3 (there are some just not that many).

So the keyboard has a french layout? Isnt WEBos now dead hence very few (or now) new applications or updates going to be released? Seems a risky investment in defunct technology. Am I missing something?

The development community for this and the Touchpad is huge, there are loads of new apps being launched regularly through Homebrew, just not that many on the official App Store. I've been using one now (with the Qwerty keyboard) for about a month and it's excellent.

I don't understand why people are voting this cold. The OS works, it just hasn't got that many apps but it is a solid phone in itself and has a lot of stuff already integrated. It is a much better phone than the Sony Experia Play as well which people have been buying like there is no tomorrow.

If you own a touchpad you can also do Touch to share (basically touch both devices) and of course you can tether to to the touchpad with this, something which isn't easily done with other phones.

Thanks for the additional info. I appreciate some may like this however in reality for most people buying a smart phone the 'phone' element is the least important aspect. Instead its the apps that appeal and if you are limited to unofficial homebrew for new releases then its going to limit its appeal.

For anyone worrying about the HPs these days, my old Palm Pre was a great 'phone. No, it's not as customizable as a 'droid, official support is now very limited, but if you want a 'phone simply for e-mail, browsing, social media, and the like without wanted to add loads of other crap, then WebOS is the best operating system I've used on a mobile device. It just works, it's slick, fast, uncomplicated, very little running in the background draining resources, just 'fling' the program you want off the screen and it's gone, closed, done. Great multitasking unit.

Can the virtual keyboard be changed on this model anyone know ?

Do you mean tether for internet? As tethering the touchpad with android is rediculously simple.....

Can anyone comment on the battery life of the Pre 3, does it sit well with current high end androids? (about 1.5 days on moderate/light use)

Is it? I didn't it it was due to the Touchpad not allowing Ad-hoc connections.

I would be very interested in how you have done it. I have done it as well, but it wasn't simple

I think that is the same as with the Pre 3.

A great phone but I couldn't handle having a keyboard with the keys in the wrong position. Still a high demand for the phone as I sold my one for a high price.

If USB tethering doesn't work then the android can make a portable wifi hotspot. Pretty sure the Touchpad would see it as just a normal router?

Just the standard menu>settings>wireless networks>tethering &hotspots and tick the box! It appears in the touchpads wifi scan and all is well
