HP Probook, business laptop, decent quality.

A10-8700P is comparable to i5-5200u.

AMD Radeon R6 is better than Intel HD 5500, comparable to 920M.

Decent CPU and GPU, especially consider the price.

The screen is non-FHD. It will be better than the screens of consumer laptops at the same price range. People who want FHD should consider increase budget. At this price range, you will not get FHD.

The weight is 2.26kg, normal weight for 15.6 inch laptop with DVD-RW.

Lower and cheaper version 455 at £200 after cashback and i5-5200 version 450 G2 at £330 also available. see floor 2.

If on small budget, lower version Probook 455 can be had for £200 after trade in your old laptop.

Bear in mind, system is Ubuntu 12.04, not Windows.

Both of them are the best value business laptops you can get with the money.

For people prefer i5-5200u, go for Probook 450 G2 at £330.

Do you want 2.5 inch or M.2?

2.5 inch is cheaper, but HDD need to come out.

M.2 is more expensive, but HDD can stay. And M.2 can be a lot faster than 2.5 inch.

RAM go for Crucial 8GB 1600Mhz at £28 from amazon, good reviews. The laptop is most likely comes with Samsung RAM, but it would be too pricy for you buy the exact same one (£49). (Another reason I like business laptop, they use expensive components and built to last, not like consumer laptops.) Amazon is good so if you ever have RAM compatiablility issues.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-CT102464BF160B-PC3-12800-Unbuffered-NON-ECC/dp/B006YG8X9Y/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1457189024&sr=8-4&keywords=8gb+ram+204+pin

The laptop is new version, should be using 1.35V RAM only, cannot use 1.5V RAM. The crucial is low voltage, can be used in both 1.35v and 1.5v environment.

One question, why do you need 16GB RAM? Consider the rest of spec, 8GB RAM should be adequate.

The old models are heavier, the new one are slimmer, lighter and more attractive looking.

Weight 2.26kg

They are the new versions, weight is normal as have a DVD-RW, it is not going to be heavier than a normal 15.6 inch consumer laptop with DVD-ROM

I'll expand on this, if you're in to programming or beginning and you fancy starting with Python, all you have to do is open a terminal in Ubuntu and type Python and you're straight in, no messing. The same is true of OSX on any Macbook, iMac etc, Python is built in. Find a free course to begin programming in Python and all is good. Just a tip if you fancy it.

I agree with you.

AMD is cheaper, better multi-thread performance, generally better GPU, but higher power consumption.

This one battery last 2-3 hours.

The Probook 450 i5-5200u, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD was £330 for months, but sold out now.

So this 455 compare to 450 is cheaper, better CPU, better GPU, more RAM, larger HDD, but shorter battery life.

You just have to choose according what is important to your requirement.

I really do not need to say this, you are not going to get FHD at this price range.

Not to mention FHD in business laptop, how much more you need to pay for it.

Also, I think its screen will be better than any consumer laptop cost £290.

I'm looking for a laptop to run Visio and simple accounting software (Quick books) onto a 24" monitor.

I also use the laptop for going to clients houses with kitchen designs.

I don't have much time to invest in learning about switching over to ssd. How simple is installing the M.2?

And whilst I'm here, is there any way of transferring my software over from my elderly Dell to here so I don't have to buy fresh copies for licence keys?

Thanks in advance

just as a note. when i did an m.2 addition for a friends 450 G2 there was no screw to hold the ssd in place. you'll have to source one from a pc/laptop repair shop (as i did) or use one from the wifi card

Yes, I opened up all my companies Probook for upgrading RAM. The newer models all got Samsung 1600Mhz. Samsung 8GB 1600Mhz cost £49 on amazon as I pointed out already. You also mentioned it.

But you can use others with the Samsung, most of time, there will not be any issue. Which is very using the £28 Crucial is a cheaper option.

Business laptop compare to consumer laptop.

Better CPU, better GPU.

Cheaper.

The only thing Acer is better is the 2TB HDD.

You are comparing an A10 business laptop with an i3 consumer laptop, no more need to be said.

The Acer is way worse.

455 is AMD, 450 is i5-5200u.

The attractiveness of 455 is better CPU and GPU, also double RAM and HDD.

455 was £330 while 450 was £300 at Christmas.

If you really want i5 business laptop, go for 450 G2 at £330.

The screen would be a standard non-FHD TN panel given the price. Screen will be the weakest link out of the whole package.

Do not get me wrong. If you are used to a non-FHD consumer laptop, Probook's screen is not going to be less than that.

You will not be able to get anything better at this price. If screen is important to you, you may consider increase your budget and get a FHD IPS screen.

I knew some models of Ultrabooks at affordable price with very good screen. But Ultrabook has smaller screen, and small form is disadvantagous if your graphic work require a lot power.

If mobility is not a issue, I suggest you go for £700 gaming machine with i7 HQ, 960M, SSD, FHD IPS screen.

If you can use a desktop, a desktop can be a lot more powerful and cheaper than a laptop. And a good 24 inch FHD IPS monitor is around £100.

Basically, if you want IPS FHD or 4k screen in a laptop, you have to pay a lot more. Not all FHD screens are good. Most FHD laptops come with bad screens too.
