Hate comments like this on HotUKdeals. Lets look at the facts for those interested. Its a HP Probook 640 G2 with a 6th generation I3 giving a benchmark of around 3606 for 122 pounds! Screen at this price point will not be full HD nor does it need to be, as this resolution was more than adequate for the people on Earth until only a few years ago. 4GB memory can easily be upgraded checking the manual via different speeds, as can the hard drive to an SSD cheaply and easily. If you are looking for something that will easily run wordprocessing, Youtube etc then this would be perfect for a young child/student if you look at the RAM/SSD upgrade.

At 38 I'm currently rocking a 2nd gen I5 Elitebook as all I do is Youtube/Word/pictures etc and its never let me down. If you get any speed issues and you're a bit more tech savvy, then look at taking Windows off and placing Ubuntu on for an even quicker machine. Issues with the battery/charger? You've got 12 months warranty to return plus laptop PSUs are cheap enough to replace.

Bit more constructive eh?

No we don't want your life story.

But he's stating some valid points - this is a decent spec for the price. If I want a cheap laptop with some form of buyers protection then this offers a decent starting point. A 6th gen i3 CPU is fine for most users, the screen resolution is usable, the hard drive is the only thing that is bad when compared to an SSD that would greatly improve the user experience.

Sorry if you didn't want to read my life story either.

Could do with refurbished somewhere in the post, preferably the title
Would this be ok for my son doing homework and web browsing?

Just the job for Browsing and Homework. Just add free LibreOffice.
Might be ok if you've a spare ssd lying around that you can add to this.

Yes should be fine but I'd add another stick of RAM and an SSD when you can to get it trundling along much faster.

Do you work for a competitor or something? I'd love to see you find a decent Skylake laptop for £60 as well please. A battery is consumable (this isn't a fabrication) and if you really want a good battery buy one on eBay for £20-25. Then again every single laptop I've had from ITZOO has had over 70% battery health, other than a single Dell E7240 which was down to 59% but still lasted hours.
Good look buying a new, genuine battery for under £25, probably want free postage too, eh?

Yes, it needs an SSD but that's not a hard, expensive or complicated fix these days. I'm not worried about the hard disks, just today they're largely useless for anything but storing non-critical sequentially accessed media files.
Serious question I’m after a laptop under the £200 mark for my sons college studies! Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

.You could say the same thing about almost anything on this site - i.e. you might find one cheaper on gumtree if the seller is desperate enough for cash they are willing to sell cheap. That's hardly a relevant comparison though, is it? By even suggesting they'd have to be "selling cheap" you're admitting that this deal is worth more

I suppose I should have voted this cold because once when I was going to take some garden cuttings to the dump, a neighbour asked me to dump her laptop which was not working. I said yes, but kept the free laptop, replaced the dud hard drive and got myself an i5 laptop for nothing except the SSD cost. Based on my unique experience, I'd say this laptop is overpriced by £104 because the SSD did cost me £18

Now that is a life story
I base all my votes here on whether I could get something for free from neighbours. It's a very reliable method of basing one's purchases on..... can I get a 20 pack of AA batteries for free from my neighbour? no, thus I voted hot on some AA battery deals recently. Could I get a new Audi on 2 year lease free from my neighbour? no, therefore I voted hot on a recent deal Audi leasing deal.....And so on and so on.

Very good deal OP. The Skylake in this is a very capable processor, and 720p resolution is more than acceptable at 14''. Same price as most celeron' netbooks'!

Have some well deserved heat.

I guess it depends on your T450's specs... but I imagine it's a 5th gen CPU which is still likely a decent performer, if you've got an SSD drive then it arguably will feel better to use than this laptop which does not have an SSD drive. I suspect there's little in it to be honest, my 3rd gen I5 laptop is still fine for daily tasks.

T450 is technically a higher tier machine as this is a Probook and Lenovo T series is supposedly on par with their Elitebook series. It’s a good deal but ITZOO have had much better before too - like this kind of money can get you laptops equipped with an SSD and better display in the past (from ITZOO). It definitely wants an SSD to be workable though.

Beat me to it! I think he wanted one for him as the T450 is for the kids. Anything beyond Sandy Bridge with an SSD is actually fine for general use IMO. Skylake machines just seem to run well, cool and efficiently - I got an HP Elitebook 820 G3 from ITZOO and it’s superb, battery lasts 5-6 hours and even under load it never gets hot.

Nice value. I use a 840 G3 for work and its a reasonable machine. £122 is great. I bought a laptop with i5 and ssd from them for £80 earlier this year on account of a scratched lid!

Strange how your eyes missed everything but singled out the 38 Thought it was quite relevant, as people want to know what age range this laptop will suit. Ironic how irrelevant your response is. I can certainly discuss my daft gamerscore, hp and cisco certifications, how many curries I can eat in a week etc but those things would be (like your comments so far) completely irrelevant and boring. Perhaps don't read my comments in future, starting from this one thanks

Ok, I have 2 kids at High School and a wife who's a teacher, so general MS Office work plus internet surfing/homework.

The T450 came with 500gb HDD but I've added an m.2 2242 128gb ssd as a boot drive, in retrospect I think a 2.5” ssd would have been faster. It has 8gb RAM.

If I got this Probook then I probably would add another 4gb RAM and replace the HDD with a 500gb or 1TB ssd. Just trying to decide whether there's anything out there that would be better value as this'll be around the £200 mark after upgrades.

There seems to be a lot of really competitive laptop deals daily at the minute. Not sure if you saw the Acer Aspire ryzen 3 posted the other day? That was 4gb RAM (needs another stick) and 256gb ssd with a full HD screen for 239 pounds to give you a comparison. So hopefully we'll see something similar on offer again soon. Depends if you want to go ryzen/Intel and new or refurb etc

The M.2 2242 and 2.5" SSD are both probably SATA so doubt it matters really. For sub-£200 I doubt you'd find anything better all-in and you know what you're getting with ITZOO.

For the stuff you're doing anything with Sandy Bridge or later, an SSD and 8GB+ RAM should be plenty.
