The AMD CPU is better on paper and benchmarks for CPU, and the AMD blows the J2900 away in the GPU department.
And not to mention the HP AMD is 30 squid cheaper... Hope that helps.

I personally went for the g3240 for around 120 (after trade in)
EDIT: I should acknowledge that the previous cashback was a trade in, and has also expired... so please consider this an FYI more than anything
Aye, but this deal has no trade in hassle.

wrong model to get £100 though

feel free, I don't need the likes lol
you didn't fancy my one - the same but £20 cheaper? lol
Have nothing to trade
I'd pay £20 more not to deal with eBuyer. Biggest crooks out when it comes to in warranty and partial refunds.... Google it

fair point
got me thinking...
some in my neck of the woods 99p now, auction ending @ the weekend...
you could but I think that defeats the object a bit, you're buying a workhorse office computer, good price but it is what it is
best thing you could do to improve it at reasonable cost (IMHO!) is add another 4GB RAM for £20
otherwise, buy something better in the first place
something like £130 after cashback, much better PC
but - you do need something to trade in
not much call for those in business offices
£90 after TCB lol
got 1
still up for grabs - not at dabs, but ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/666309-hp-prodesk-405-g2-mt-desktop-j8s83ea-abu
Fleabum hates ebuyer & I can't be arsed to get a few more hundred likes lol
Just add it to the OP as a note, then people can go there if they don't mind eBuyer. I don't hate eBuyer, I just won't condone their underhanded business practices by spending money with them.

all right then
In theory yes, but the power supply is always going to be a limiting factor on improving gfx performance beyond the very basic level.
I disagree.
The HDD is the bottleneck in this. Shove a cheap 60gb SSD in and chuck the OS on it and you have a basic desktop that'll do day to day tasks very nicely indeed.
Plenty of those around the £30 mark on Amazon.
4gb RAM will be plenty for the intended use of this thing. The extra 4gb certainly wouldn't hurt, but I doubt it would benefit most buyers/users of this box ...
Maybe it's fear of the unknown that's putting me off. Could anyone therefore point me to:
1. Ebay listing for said SSD
2. detailed instructions on how to fit it, maybe Youtube?
I think I could transfer over the O/S, I think Microsoft let you download an ISO file if you have a genuine COA code, is that right?
In order to claim the £30 cashback, one has to purchase a "Carepack" - I think that information should have been provided when you posted instead of people having to read the "small print". Ever-so slightly "underhanded" posting practice, IMO. So it's not a deal really, it's a discount on an additional purchase.
"2. The Promotion applies to the HP ProDesk 405 G2 Desktop (L3E37ES), when purchased with any HP 3yr or 5yr Desktop Carepack (the "Qualifying Products") purchased from BT Store only (see Clause 3 below)."
Also, regarding and CLAIM, according to this page,-
https://hppromotions.co.uk/FAQs.aspx
it states:
"A. You can only claim between 30 to 60 days from the date of your invoice. Your invoice date is Day 1. If you submit a claim one day after or before the 30 to 60 day window, your claim will be invalidated."
But that is contradicted according to this page -
https://hppromotions.co.uk/Terms.aspx?Promo=HP20955
where it states:
9. "To enter the Promotion and claim £30/€33 euro (L3E37ES) cash back ("Claim"), you must visit hppromotions.co.uk and fill out the online claim within 30 days from the date of invoice. Your date of invoice is counted as day 1. You will be asked to provide an invoice number and serial number of your Qualifying Product as proof of purchase. If you provide an incomplete claim form, you will be notified via email and offered the opportunity to provide the required items within fourteen days. If you submit your Claim outside this timeframe, your Claim will be invalid. All documents sent through the post should be sent via recorded delivery."
So one says to claim WITHIN 30 days, the other states BETWEEN 30-60 days. So which is it?
I wouldn't buy an SSD on eBay personally. Maybe from a site reseller account (Scan, Dabs, Argos, whatever) but you're not likely to save much over buying it from Amazon. At least with Amazon the CS is very good. Just search on there for "60gb SSD" and you'll get a few results. Top 3 for me are SanDisk, Kingston and Corsair ones, all about £30. Any of them would be fine. No point putting a high end one in this.
Fitting is easy. Just open the box, put the new drive in (may need an adaptor to keep it in the drive bay - may also need a SATA cable if it doesn't come with one).
Then use something like Macrium Reflect to transfer. I've used it a few times and it's a doddle. It should transfer the OS without requiring a re-install. Although, this'll likely come with junkware installed so a clean install may be a good shout.
You may need to alter the BIOS boot settings to pick up the SSD first. But that should be about it.
It's pretty simple really. You won't need to wipe the original drive until you're done so if worst comes to worst, you can always revert back to it.
You have to purchase the machine with a care pack to get the offer and you can only get it from the BT STORE
Can't seem to find the i3. Could you post a link
I bought this exact same pc last month
it's OK.
Windows 8.1 is a bit flaky
