Deal apathy maybe as it’s been posted so many times before. :w00t:
It’s the best current price so I thought it worth a post as people liked it at £200.

Agharta there are only 2 threads on this server, one that we both posted on (ebuyer) and this one, you found a deal over 10% cheaper... I gave you 9% heat and it never lasted a minute... have some rep

h and r from me too - great find!

..just beware if you want to expand memory and put a pcie or pci graphics card in it..it uses a non standard pci card and also windows will not run on it if you install more than 4gb ram!! onboard video is fine but slow!! ...cheap for a reason...i wouldnt buy this box again...

Any one got ESX 3.5 R2 installed on one of these ?

(also as a not these support sas drives as well as sata according to the HP data sheet on this model)

Hot from me pity about the 2% though.

wrong on all counts, a normal pcie card is fine for video, the sound card can be a 3v pci or the later smallee pcie type or usb, all this is well documented on here and other forums, I have read many people fitting 8gb or ram with 64 bit xp or vista, only problem with windows is drivers, difficult but not impossible to find.

yes it will mate

What do you mean it wont take a standard PCI-E gfx card? And what about the memory?
I would buy this, updade the GPU and stick 4GB of ram in there. Is that possible?

Really good deal... dunno what he's going on about windows not booting up with 4gb ram in it though sound like a load of tosh, would be fine to use 8gb in there or even 16gb if you use 4gb sticks (note 4gb sticks are damm expensive.. ocuk are probably cheapest)

Put in a pci geforce 8600 vga card and installed xp x64. Is working well with 8GB RAM[/SIZE], so that i can use vmware server 2.0 for work and fits all my specifications. Also the pci-e e1000 works, so that i can try to install esx next few weeks. In this way it is a nice and very fast system with a little bit 3d and dvi.You need the nforce drivers for 3xxx chipset from nvidia to get this working (the hp ones are old from 2006 and limit the hdd to 10 percent).Hope that helps someone.Joerg

non standard PCI not pci-e..you are right but why should you have to buy a specific video card to get the damn thing to work...pcie is a standard so why would you buy something that wont allow you to upograde it??

ok take a look at the PCI not PCIE interface on this and you will see that it is backwards compared toa standard pci interface..good luck if you buy....ok if its drivers then explain why it boots up with 4gb and NOT 8gb??? if you know windows architecture you will know why!!..and its not related to drivers...

I know from buying the piece of rubbish and have over 15 years experience in the network infrastructure field so good luck! I'd love to hear how any of you manage to upgrade it to work with more than 4gb and a pcie card..Theres lots of posting on forums about issues with this box...just google memory problems with ml115 g5

pci on this is 3v not 5v you can buy many soundcards that have double slot interfaces and work on this.

I didnt say it wouldnt run with 8gb..i said if you want to use >4gb ram and upgrade to a pice graphics card then forget it..I bought from here before and it doesnt do half of what I or someone else might want..

tell you what if anyone wants a second hand one of these..message me and I will start a fs trade @ say £120 delivered!

Great value for a home or media server. Not bad as a Vista machine. Been using one for the past year.

It has been done, cant be bothered trawling the net to prove a point, I have been waiting for this machine to drop in price since January, had 2 orders cancelled due to lack of stock in that time...

this is not the same model that was released before 480570-035, this is 470065-018 there are several differences, some negative some positive...
even just for parts alone this is a steal the chip alone goes for £100 minimum.

Would be Interesting to use this as a media server. How would you manage the HDMI out? using an appropriate graphics card? and then use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse for wireless control over the media centre? Would this be better than using a PS3 for a media centre?

Err, why would you put any graphics card in it? I have one of these, it's a server and that's it. All it does is crunch numbers all day. Also if you put 4 gig in a 32 bit environment it won't pick it up anyway.

Google points to a lot of pages that suggest it is possible with a bit of tinkering,
I'm considering getting one, but if ESX won't work I'd be really annoyed.

Its not a full 16x pcie lane i believe its 8x but that's neither here nor there as its a server which shouldn't be used as a workstation so graphics card is not needed as it should be used via telnet/remote desktop for administration i don't know why anyone bothers posting such deals here as its lost on all but a few of us.

still hot i need a dedicated server for home i just never get round to it when you've messed with them all day with so many shares and so many home PCs administration is becoming a nightmare because of the limitations of a workstation OS using a workgroup setup.

ESXi does work, it just takes a bit of fiddling.
I bought one of these about a year ago for ~£120 from CCL. Excellent little server.

Also, lol at those installing XP.

Been waiting to get one at a decent price. Ordered and will finally have a file server up and running instead of risking all my data on 4 x external USB drives.
Now just need to buy a bunch of HDD's to stick in it.

H&R added.

I've got a radeon hd4850 in mine with a usb souncard, it plays any game on full and makes a great workstation or server, windows or linux. It's a great deal at this price.
The ML110 doesn't have a 16x pcie slot but has a 3 year warranty and might be a better option for a server but the ML115 is a better desktop option because of the pci slot.

Just install Linux - much better for server OS's anyway!

Excellent price, which is the better CPU ? The Opteron quad core or the Xeon Dual Core ?

Thanks
Taz:thumbsup:

The 16x and 8x PCIe slots are both rated for their full bandwidth; see the specs in the actual deal which I took from the HP specs. You may be thinking of a previous Proliant system!
So it’s perfectly capable of running a ‘proper’ graphics card and being used as a desktop; the power supply might not have a 6 pin PCIe connector though.
These entry level single socket servers aren’t so different from desktops and in some ways are probably better and some worse.

This would be such a great media server especially if it could run Twonky or Squeezecenter. Such good value when compared to a Qnap NAS etc, if only it were smaller, quieter and more energy efficient

So is it better to go for the quad core Opteron based ML115 or the dual core Xeon based ML110 (which is a little more expensive, but not much) on the same site:
